British Rowing, as the governing body for the sport, is responsible for the development of rowing in England and the training and selection of rowers to represent Great Britain
The Bath University Boat Club is looking to hire a Head Rowing Coach to oversee the development, selection, and performance of crews in the men’s and women’s seniors team.
BUBC counts 50 athletes across the men’s and women’s senior squads. Seniors range from students who have started rowing while at university and have gained a year of novice experience, or rowers who wish to continue with the sport. Squads also include lightweight athletes. Senior crews take part at a range of British Rowing and BUCS events each year, for which preparation occurs in Bath and on training camps. These occur at the end of January (28th Jan-3rd Feb) and over Easter break (8th-14th Apr). Water sessions take place on a 4km stretch on the Avon, whilst land training occurs at the University Sports Training Village, supported by Team Bath coaches.
The Head Rowing Coach post is a full time position that will oversee athlete development throughout the 9-month academic year, including racing events and training camps.
Standard week – based on roughly 11hrs of commitment a week, these hours do not all fall in core office hours, with flexibility to work around morning sessions during the week and at the weekend crucial. These will include 4h morning training sessions on Saturday and Sunday.
Racing events – the coach is expected to attend events that the club chooses to partake in, having expenses paid for by the club and compensate through Time off in Lieu.
Training camps – the coach will be available to follow senior athletes on training camps in the dates set above. Expenses will be paid for by the club and time compensated through Time off in Lieu.
Start Date – Late September 2024
