The Person

Experience

Essential:  

  • Knowledge and application of creative content design software Eg Adobe Suite and WordPress with experience in video editing and production  
  • Understanding and knowledge of community rugby - mini, junior, U18 and Adult Pathways - and player development.  
  • Demonstrable experience delivering workforce programmes or learning content.  

Desirable:  

  • Experience in match official or referee education.  
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing coach education, match official or learning resources.  

Skills & Qualifications

  • Creative and collaborative team player.  
  • Practical and delivery-oriented with good attention to detail 
  • Strong planning and organisational skills.  
  • Committed to inclusion, equity, and player wellbeing.  
  • Able to demonstrate professional integrity and a passion for community rugby.  
  • Degree level or equivalent experience in graphic design, multimedia, social media or digital marketing, sports development, or education.  
  • The ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is desirable 

The Role

Key Responsibilities, Tasks and Activities

  • Lead the design and production of digital and physical learning resources for community coaches and match officials.  
  • Create standard operating procedures and delivery guides for WRU Rugby Engagement Staff and the Developer workforce.   
  • Support the rollout of innovative blended learning opportunities (digital and face-to-face).  
  • Embed inclusive, player-centered principles across all community and talent discovery coaching and match official programmes  
  • Research and develop engaging, evidence-based content aligned with WRU player development strategies  
  • Collaborate both internally and externally with rugby specialists such as Academic Institutions, Coach developers, National Coaches, Elite Match Officials and Community Stakeholders and the WRU Digital & Data Section to ensure accessible, high-quality materials.  
  • Ensure regular review and refresh of resources to ensure relevance, inclusivity, and impact.  
  • Produce tailored learning materials to support: Girls’ rugby coaches (6–18), Boys’ rugby coaches (12–18), and coaches working with Talent Discovery Players (14–16).  
  • Develop and deliver age-appropriate content that enhances player experience and retention. (16 to 18 and 18 to Seniors) 
  • Work with the WRU Performance Department to connect community and talent discovery (14-16) coaching and match official pathways  
  • Partner with the Match Officials Department to co-design aligned resources, training, and educational content.  
  • Develop educational learning modules for both coaches and match officials to improve mutual understanding and respect.  
  • Support recruitment, development, and retention initiatives for new match officials.  
  • Promote consistent messaging and behaviours through coaching and officiating education.  
  • Regularly review the effectiveness of programmes and resources through structured feedback and analysis 
  • Use data and insights to inform future content design and delivery improvements.  
  • Contribute to ongoing enhancement of WRU learning systems and digital delivery platforms.

  • This role is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure check

WRU Requirements

The WRU require that individuals are proficient in IT skills, specifically Microsoft packages. Excellent written and verbal communications are essential, along with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh and a Valid UK Driver's License is desirable. This role is subject to a basic/enhanced DBS check.
