Job Purpose

The U11 Assistant Coach will support the U11 Lead Coach with the delivery of the Academy Coaching and Games Programme for the U11 Academy age group. The position will involve working irregular hours (e.g. evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, Bank Holidays, School Holidays, etc.) so a flexible candidate is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver sessions to the Academy U11 age group within the Academy Curriculum/Syllabus and Technical/Tactical Cycle as and when required.
  • In conjunction with the U11 and U12 Cell Lead and U11 Lead Coach, design, devise and deliver Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) for players within the U11 age group.
  • Support Match Day and Tournament preparation and performance for the U11 age group, including the selection of Match Day/Tournament squads.
  • Travel with U11 Tournament Squads (domestic and abroad), providing coaching support and pastoral care that adheres to Academy guidelines and policies.
  • Attend weekly MDT (Multi-Disciplinary Team) meetings with the U11 and U12 Cell Lead, U11 Lead Coach, and staff members from relevant departments.
  • Ensure detailed session plans and a register of attendance are completed for every session each week using the Academy Session Plan Template.
  • Produce Match Analysis Sheets for every game and tournament using the Academy Match Analysis Sheet Template.
  • Produce Match and Tournament player reports each week using the Academy Match Report Template.
  • Assist the U11 Lead Coach with detailed player reports and action plans for all U11 players every 12 weeks in line with Premier League rules.
  • Support mid-season (Christmas) and end-of-season (April/May/June) Player/Parent meetings for the U11 age group.
  • Contribute to analysis sessions and workshops for the U11 age group when required.
  • Ensure training, match, and tournament data entry is accurate and up to date in Kitman Labs for the U11 group.
  • Support the Elite Development Centre (EDC) and other relevant Academy programmes and events, including Talent ID and ‘Area Best’ events when required.
  • Build strong relationships with players and parents in line with Academy policies and manage communication via Club-issued devices.
  • Collaborate with Medical, Sports Science, Analysis, Education, Player Care/Safeguarding, Operations, and Kit teams to support the holistic development of players.
  • Assist the U11 Lead Coach, U11 and U12 Cell Lead, Head of Foundation Coaching, and Academy Recruitment Team in identifying and onboarding potential trialists or signings.
  • Support player release processes in collaboration with the Player Care Team.
  • Embody and promote the Academy Philosophy in all interactions with players, parents, and colleagues.
  • Help identify potential talent in the U10 and EDC (U11) programmes when required.

Maintain all mandatory CPD and qualifications, including:

  • Club-issued DBS Check (renewed every three years)
  • UEFA Licence CPD (15 hours of the appropriate level CPD every three years)
  • FA Advanced Youth Award
  • FA Safeguarding Children Workshop (renewed every three years)
  • FA Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAiF) qualification (renewed every three years)

Qualifications

Essential

  • UEFA B Licence
  • FA Advanced Youth Award

Preferred

  • UEFA A Licence
  • Relevant Undergraduate Degree

  • Experienced working in a professional Academy environment
  • Experience working as part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team
  • Strong organisational and personal management skills
  • Proficient IT skills (specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative and solve day-to-day challenges independently
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate to both children and adults
  • Experience working with children aged 9–12 years
  • Demonstrated ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines
