The Role
Coordinate the planning, preparation, and delivery of a holistic coaching programme specific to students, ensuring that all programme operations, logistics and coaching are delivered in a professional manner and adhere to all relevant Club policies, operating procedures, and coaching philosophies.
Establish and develop relationships with external stakeholders and target groups (e.g., feeder schools, grassroots clubs, and the wider school network) to create awareness in the local area of the partnership between the partner and the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.
Lead on the engagement and development of the Higher National Certificate programme (HNC) in partnership with NCC.
Support broader Spurs Football Development programmes when directed, inclusive of domestic/international partner experiences, group day experiences, premier days, special events or internationals. Assist with departmental growth and development objectives, inclusive of quality assurance observations and providing strategic feedback on operational processes.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching
- Oversee the development and delivery of a structured coaching programme aligned with the Spurs Football Development coaching syllabus/coaching cycle, ensuring players are developed technically, tactically, physically, psychologically, and socially based on the Spurs Football Development philosophy.
- Coordinate and attend relevant partner match days (home and away), including staffing, squads, and officials.
- When directed, observe coaching performance of fellow coaches and provide effective feedback to both the observed coach and the central team via the Spurs Football Development Quality Assurance Framework Tottenham Hotspur
- Identify potential students to be recommended for the Coach Development Programme and support the recruitment process and provide mentoring for selected students.
- Create video/interactive content for student engagement and recruitment/promotion of the programme.
- Research current trends of coaching and continually look for ways to develop and improve your own coaching and best practice within all Spurs Football Development programmes.
- Identify talented players and report via the Club TID process.
- Support wider department initiatives in both coach education and continued personal development.
Education Partner
- Align with NCC in developing and presenting additional resources to HNC students that assist with their ongoing learning and development.
- Mentor HNC students, identifying suitable candidates to progress into the Coach Development Programme, other Club departments or internships as required.
- Working with the Education & Football Development Centre Coordinator, drive the recruitment strategy to support the growth and development of the programme with the aspiration to attract higher quality players each year, ensuring the target enrolment figure is met.
- Ensure that all relevant partner events (trials, open events or similar) are attended and supported by a member of the programme coaching team. This will include planning and developing resources to support the promotion of Education & Football Development programmes.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders including fellow coaches, partner staff and students. Provide outstanding customer service to the relevant partner by supporting them with their contractual needs and liaising directly with the Education & Football Development Centre Coordinator.
- Attend weekly college programme operations meetings to ensure set targets and performance indicators are met.
- Provide classroom support as required.
- Coordinate the organisation of ad-hoc trips/events when required e.g., visits to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Training Centre etc.
Operations
- Ensure that allocated staff hours are being used effectively, notifying the central Operations Team of any potential staffing/scheduling concerns.
- Attend half-termly meetings as part of a Head Coaches working group to share progress, feedback and updates to Education & Football Development Centre coordinator and Operations Manager within the programme.
- Via the monthly engagement form, provide programme updates and case studies to Education & Football Development Centre Coordinator, highlighting student achievements, attendance figures / programme-related data / targets and programme progression.
- Conduct generic and dynamic risk assessments as and when required.
- Monitor kit & equipment regularly throughout the year and implement processes to minimise loss and/or damage of Club property.
- Communicate with the operations team around any requirements for kit, equipment and first aid items.
- Monitor updates on the coach communication platform. Complete tasks on the platform as required.
Line Management
- Conduct Quarterly Check In’s (QCI’s) and end of year Performance Development Reviews (PDR’s) with members of your team, focusing on individual objectives, performance and Spurs Way Values.
- Facilitate regular 1-1 and team meetings with staff to ensure that priorities are clear and identified targets are being met.
Safeguarding
- Work alongside the Club Safeguarding Manager’s and college DSLs to champion safeguarding, maintaining practices in-line with the Club’s Safeguarding policies.
- Assist with all accident, incident, and risk management reporting, ensuring that all concerns are reported on my concern within 24 hours.
- Actively promote and raise awareness of safer working practices within your programmes, disseminating information to your team and modelling best practice to colleagues.
- Actively keep up to date with current and new safeguarding training and practices, including the FA’s Safeguarding Children qualification, Keeping Children Safe in Education policies and the annual in-house Head Coach safeguarding training.
General
- Understand and comply with all relevant Club and policies.
- Understand and comply with the Club’s and health and safety procedures.

- Promote, adhere to, and implement the Club’s Equality & Diversity Policy.
- Have an active involvement in all Spurs Football Development in-service training events as required.
- Administer effective first aid and keep accurate records of any care provided to students.
- Understand and comply with relevant partner policies and procedures where applicable.
- Undertake any other duties as may reasonably be expected.
- Monitor updates across all forms of communication I.E. Connect Team, WhatsApp, E-mail and to respond in a timely manner when requested. It is a requirement for all coaches to complete tasks on the platform as required.
