The Performance Research Engineer will play a critical role in advancing TaylorMade’s leadership in golf equipment performance. This position is ideal for a hands-on engineer with strong mechanical aptitude and advanced data analytics skills. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between physical testing and high-level data analysis to deliver actionable insights that influence product design and performance optimization.
Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and execution of advanced performance testing protocols for golf clubs and balls.
- Analyze large datasets from lab and field testing to extract actionable insights on ball speed, spin, launch, and consistency.
- Develop and maintain automated data pipelines and dashboards for performance tracking.
- Collaborate with R&D, Product Development, and Tour teams to integrate player feedback and real-world data into product design.
- Conduct competitor benchmarking and present findings to influence product strategy.
- Support the development of new test methods and instrumentation.
- Performs other related duties and assignments as required.
Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
- Proven ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Strong golf background (low single-digit handicap preferred); deep understanding of equipment–player interaction.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with experimental testing, instrumentation, and troubleshooting.
- Advanced proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, Excel).
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience with golf launch monitors, motion capture, or high-speed video analysis preferred.
- Familiarity with advanced statistical methods (e.g., ANOVA, regression modeling, machine learning) preferred.
- Experience developing automated reporting tools or dashboards (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) preferred.
Education, Work Experience, and Professional Certifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Computer Science or related), Applied Mathematics, Physics, or Data Science.
- Master’s degree plus 0–2 years of relevant experience, or Bachelor’s degree plus 2–4 years of experience.
Work Environment / Physical Requirements:
- Hybrid office and field-testing environment with extensive computer use, data review, and communication across teams.
- Ability to work extended hours during key testing cycles, product deadlines, or Tour-related activities.
- Comfortable working in dynamic environments with frequent context switching and interruptions.
- Light physical activity, including moving test equipment, prototypes, and other lightweight materials.
- Regular travel to test facilities, player testing sessions, manufacturing partners, and PGA/LPGA Tour events may be required.
