THE OPPORTUNITY

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced leader to take on the role of Head of Academy. This pivotal position will be responsible for driving the strategic direction and operational excellence of the QBE Sydney Swans Academy, with oversight across coaching, high performance, and academy operations.

Driven to be better tomorrow than we are today, this critical role will be responsible for:

  • Driving the advancement of an athlete development framework including systems to benchmark and longitudinally track academy athlete physical and skill development
  • Building a healthy pipeline of coaching, medical and sports science talent to accelerate the development of our Academy athletes
  • Developing and leading strategic initiatives to identify and recruit elite talent across the academy zone.
  • Ensuring medicolegally sound and practical systems to record and track injury and illness data
  • Fostering strong relationships with both AFL and AFLW programs, linking the Academy to our elite teams and ensuring alignment with list needs.
  • Leadership and development of staff within the Academy, fostering a culture of continual improvement, excellence and integration into the broader club.
  • Oversight of safeguarding children and young people frameworks and compliance in the Academy.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Exceptional people leader and ability to demonstrate cultural leadership
  • Proven ability to strategically plan and execute successful long-term outcomes
  • Experience developing systems and processes to create operational efficiency
  • Experience working with athlete development frameworks and/or in elite sport
  • Effective relationship and stakeholder management skills
  • Effective communication style including the ability to adapt to deliver the desired outcome
  • Working with Children Check and previous experience working with children

Due to the nature of the industry, the ideal candidate must be flexible in their availability as extended hours and weekend work will be required for this role.
