What is the role?
We are looking for someone to work within the Academy Sports Medicine & Science department for Southampton Football Club who wants to be a part of a progressive, interdisciplinary team promoting the health and well-being of the players. You will actively contribute to a department that is viewed as a centre of excellence in injury and illness prevention, injury management and cutting-edge medical and science research development.
What will you be doing?
You will lead in providing a first-class physiotherapy and injury prevention service to all under-21s players in the Professional Development Phase, organising, developing and implementing the best methods of injury prevention, performance enhancement, rehabilitation, care and advice. You will also assist, when required to do so, in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of 1st team players.
Producing progressive injury rehabilitation programmes based on SFC principles, you will provide effective assessment and treatment to all the players you are responsible for, supporting the club's injury prevention strategy and monitoring.
You will work closely with the Athletic Performance Coaches to ensure the best methods of academy player development are achieved and there is complete integration between departments for all conditioning programmes and recovery strategies.
Leading the physiotherapy/medical input of interdisciplinary meetings to discuss player health and availability, you will ensure that staff and players are educated in terms of injury prevention and care, post-match recovery, diet, drug awareness and whereabouts issues. You will maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for all registered academy players and attend player scans and hospital appointments when required.
You will provide medical examination to academy players upon entry to the programme and lead first aid and pitch-side cover for training and under-21s matches, liaising with the Academy Doctor and Head of Academy Performance consistently and appropriately.

To thrive in this position, you will have extensive knowledge of injury prevention methods and recovery strategies as well as manual therapy skills and knowledge of movement dysfunction analysis.
You have the ability to remain organised in a fast-paced environment and understand the importance of regular and clear communication for seamless delivery. You understand how to lead a team and will be comfortable supervising and mentoring work placement students.
You have a proactive and adaptable approach to work and can be available to work evenings, weekends and matchdays as required.
