Rugby World Cup Australia is seeking a Sustainability and Impact Coordinator to join our Sydney CBD team. Reporting to the Head of Tournament Planning, this role works closely with both internal and external stakeholders to bring the Tournament Sustainability Plan to life, turning high‑level goals into practical actions that create real environmental, social, and community impact. A key part of the role involves collecting, analysing, and reporting sustainability data, including carbon‑related information, to track progress, highlight risks and opportunities, and provide clear, evidence‑based insights that inform decision‑making. You'll play an active role in meetings and working groups, listening carefully, spotting opportunities, and sharing recommendations from a sustainability lens while recognising that final decisions sit with operational leaders. Success in this role requires strong collaboration and the ability to influence without authority. You'll balance sustainability outcomes with the realities of delivering a major sporting event, helping ensure Rugby World Cup 2027 leaves a meaningful legacy for future generations.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Support the delivery of the RWC 2027 Sustainability Plan by developing and implementing practical action plans across the organisation.
- Work closely with host cities, partners, teams, and internal stakeholders to integrate sustainability requirements into planning and operations.
- Lead sustainability data collection, including carbon footprint inputs, and track progress through clear reporting and performance measurement.
- Assess progress against sustainability targets, identifying risks, opportunities, and behavioural change impacts.
- Collaborate with Procurement to embed sustainability in evaluation processes and support delivery partners in meeting their commitments.
- Ensure all activities align with long‑term environmental, social, and economic legacy goals beyond 2027.
- Design and deliver sustainability workshops and initiatives to build capability and awareness across the workforce.
Qualifications & Experience
- 2-3 years' experience in sustainability, ESG, environmental management, or related roles or a recent university graduate (Bachelor's or Master's) with strong academic grounding in sustainability and Australian environmental regulations.
- Working knowledge of sustainability principles, ESG frameworks, and best‑practice sustainable event operations; exposure to carbon emissions reporting is highly regarded.
- Strong analytical and data skills, with accuracy in data entry, reporting, documentation, and contract handling; advanced spreadsheet capability.
- Confident communicator with strong presentation skills, able to influence, make evidence‑based recommendations, and work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Project management capability, including the ability to prioritise, problem‑solve, and translate sustainability plans into practical, real‑world actions.
- Adaptable, collaborative, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment, engaging with diverse teams while balancing practical outcomes with operational realities.
