Rugby World Cup Australia is seeking a Medical Services Lead to join our team based in our Sydney CBD office. Reporting to the General Manager - Team Services and Rugby Operations, and working closely with the Tournament Medical Director, this role plays a key part in the planning, coordination, and delivery of the Tournament Medical Programme for the Men's Rugby World Cup 2027.
The role is responsible for the operational implementation of World Rugby medical and player welfare standards for Teams and Match Officials, translating the strategic framework set by the Tournament Medical Director into effective, compliant delivery.
This is a highly organised, documentation focussed, and coordination based position requiring strong project management capability, sound judgement, and the ability to work independently in a complex, compliance driven environment. This is a unique opportunity to contribute directly to deliver high-quality player welfare standards, while helping to set global benchmarks for medical delivery at major sporting events.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Support the Tournament Medical Director and Medical Advisory Group in delivering the Tournament Medical Programme.
- Ensure medical services for Teams and Match Officials comply with World Rugby medical and player welfare standards.
- Coordinate medical governance activities, including meetings, documentation, compliance tracking, and reporting.
- Lead medical procurement and manage the tournament medical budget, risks, and contingency planning.
- Coordinate match‑day and non‑match‑day medical services in collaboration with Match Management and Team Services.
- Work with internal functional areas to coordinate medical personnel, logistics, accreditation, travel, and accommodations.
- Support the appointment, coordination, and training of tournament medical personnel.
- Lead medical knowledge transfer and post‑tournament reporting.
Qualifications & Experience
- 3-5 years' experience in medical administration, programme delivery or operational coordination within elite sport, major events, or similarly regulated environments
- Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and deliver complex programmes, particularly those with compliance, governance or regulatory requirements
- Experience managing documentation, budgets, procurement activities and multiple workstreams, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, professional materials for internal and external stakeholders
- Proven capability to build and manage stakeholder relationships across internal teams, senior leaders and external partners
- Highly organised and detail focused, able to manage large volumes of information and parallel priorities with minimal supervision
- Calm, resilient and solutions oriented, able to perform effectively in fast paced, deadline driven environments
- Medical qualifications are not required; the role is focused on administration, coordination and delivery (knowledge of rugby or major sporting events is desirable but not essential)
