We are seeking an experienced and motivated Assistant Head of Hockey to work closely with the Head of Hockey in shaping and delivering the Millfield Hockey programme. This is a senior role combining strategic and operational input with the delivery of high‑quality coaching, supporting player development while helping to ensure the effective planning, organisation and continued success of the programme as a whole.

Job responsibilities

  • Design and deliver high‑quality technical coaching and player development programmes for players across the Talent Academy, England Age Group pathway and 1st XI
  • Lead squad coaching sessions across multiple age groups, inspiring players of varying abilities
  • Support the creation, monitoring and review of individual development plans, including feedback and performance analysis
  • Deputise for the Head of Hockey in their absence
  • Contribute to fixtures, tournaments, tours, scholarship events and outreach activity
  • Work collaboratively to ensure safe, well‑organised delivery of training and matchday operations

About you

  • A qualified hockey coach (UKCC Level 2 or equivalent as a minimum), with strong technical and tactical knowledge of the game
  • A degree in sports coaching or a related discipline
  • Proven experience coaching within schools, clubs or talent pathways
  • Highly organised, with excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
  • Passionate about player development and open to new coaching methods

Working hours and salary

This is a year‑round role working 42 hours per week, typically across Monday to Saturday, with occasional Sunday work required to support fixtures, tournaments or events.

The salary for this position is £32,000 to £37,000 per annum, dependent on skills and experience.
