Purpose

Established in 1986, City in the Community is Manchester City’s official charity. We support people across Manchester by empowering healthier lives through football. Our programmes place physical and mental wellbeing at their core, whilst also creating healthy futures and healthy communities.

The purpose of this role is to deliver the City Inspires programme that focuses on increasing confidence, resilience, and behaviour in a range of young people and abilities through the curriculum delivery within a classroom and on a pitch. The programme provides a football-focused approach to delivering education to a range of abilities and aims to engage participants who aren’t fully accessing the mainstream school curriculum and who benefit from tailored support and intervention through a range of qualifications to meet the needs of participants and schools.

Accountabilities

  1. Delivering the City Inspires programme to a range of schools, colleges and sixth forms across Greater Manchester. A focus will be placed on increasing confidence, developing behaviour and increasing awareness of future pathways in order to inspire, motivate and guide participants through the Inspires curriculum delivered in both the classroom and practical sport sessions.
  2. Working in partnership with the Community Mentoring Officer- Inspires to support planning and delivery of high-quality, engaging sessions for in the classroom and on the pitch, making the most of opportunities to develop participant’s skills, aspirations and experiences
  3. Being accountable for progress and reporting on set KPIs and outcomes associated with each project to develop, maintain and grow a strong working relationship with partner schools.
  4. Developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with all learners, closely monitor attendance, punctuality and behaviour of learners in various programmes to promote high standards and outcomes.
  5. Developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with teaching staff and education partners. Working closely to develop an innovative and exciting curriculum that engages participants.
  6. Ensuring that CITC’s Safeguarding policy and procedures are embedded to the highest standard across the team. Work to ensure that safeguarding practices and principles are adhered to, ensuring our legal and moral obligations towards the framework.
  7. Actively seek opportunities for participants to further develop, educate and challenge themselves to be more successful individuals.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Minimum Level 2 Coaching Certificate in Sport (except dodgeball) or Level 2 Youth Work or similar
  • Full clean driving licence and access to own vehicle
  • In-depth understanding of community engagement programmes
  • Experience of planning and delivering high quality coaching/education sessions which are challenging and inclusive to the needs of the group.
  • Solid experience of working in and liaising with schools, colleges and educational stakeholders
  • Experience and knowledge of working within a brand environment and understanding the responsibilities that are associated with representing a Premier League Football Club
  • Competent across Microsoft office
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Creative and passionate about continuous improvement
  • Resilient and adaptable to change
  • Excellent and inclusive team-working abilities
  • Ability to simultaneously co-ordinate a variety of different projects

Desirable

  • Educated to degree level in a relevant field (Education, Sports, Coaching)
  • Coaching qualifications in other relevant sports
  • Understanding of City in the Community Foundation and its projects
  • Mentoring qualification or proven experience of mentoring students
  • Experience of building relationships with external organisations and maintaining internal partnerships.
  • Excellent communication and motivation skills
  • Youth work experience
  • Experience of strong behaviour management.
