About the role

Working closely with People Partners, line managers and the wider People & Culture function, this role provides practical, hands-on support across employee relations casework and the day-to-day application of People & Culture policies and processes.

The role manages a varied caseload, supporting fair, timely and consistent outcomes across disciplinary, grievance, capability, absence and other employee matters. It provides clear advice to managers, maintains accurate case records and works with relevant colleagues to identify and manage employment-related risk.

The role also supports the review and implementation of employment policies and legislative changes, helping translate requirements into clear guidance and workable processes for managers and colleagues.

What you will be doing:

Employee Relations

  • Manage a varied Employee Relations caseload, ensuring matters are progressed promptly, fairly and in line with Club policy and employment law.
  • Provide practical advice and support to managers on disciplinary, grievance, capability, attendance, performance and other employee matters.
  • Handle complex or sensitive cases, working with People Partners, Legal and other specialists where additional support or escalation is required.
  • Maintain accurate and complete case records, including correspondence, meeting notes, outcome documentation and case management data.
  • Monitor case activity and recurring themes, sharing practical observations with the team and People Partners to help improve guidance, processes and manager support.
  • Apply standard ER processes and controls consistently, supporting fair outcomes and appropriate documentation across all cases.
  • Keep up to date with employment legislation and case law, working with the in-house Employment Lawyer to reflect relevant changes in advice, guidance and case handling.
  • Coach and guide managers through individual cases, helping them understand the process, prepare for meetings and make fair, evidence-based decisions.
  • Support the ER aspects of organisational change, including consultation activity, documentation and individual case support.
  • Support employment status and off-payroll casework, gathering information, coordinating checks and escalating legal, tax or cross-border considerations where required.
  • Contribute to service improvements by identifying practical ways to simplify case handling, improve templates and strengthen the experience of managers and colleagues.

Policy and HR Governance

  • Support the review, drafting and implementation of People & Culture policies and guidance, ensuring they are clear, practical and legally compliant.
  • Monitor relevant employment law developments and help update policies, processes, templates and manager guidance in response.
  • Maintain the People & Culture policy library, review schedule and supporting documentation.
  • Coordinate regular policy reviews and ensure updates are accurately recorded and communicated.
  • Work with People Partners and subject-matter experts to update policies and guidance in response to case themes, business needs and legislative change.
  • Provide practical input into policy development, using casework experience to help ensure processes are workable and easy to understand.
  • Ensure employee-facing policy information and supporting materials are accurate, accessible and current.
  • Support policy implementation through briefings, guidance and case-based coaching for managers.
  • Identify policy queries, gaps or inconsistencies arising through casework and raise these with the appropriate policy owner.

Wellbeing and EDI

  • Use Occupational Health referrals and advice to support individual absence, rehabilitation, reasonable adjustment and return-to-work cases.
  • Coordinate Occupational Health case activity, ensuring referrals are appropriate, reports are followed up and actions are clearly recorded.
  • Provide practical support to managers handling wellbeing, absence and workplace adjustment matters.
  • Ensure ER advice and case handling are fair, inclusive and consistent with the Club’s equity, diversity and inclusion commitments.
  • Work with People Partners, Health & Safety, Impact, Safeguarding and Employee Experience colleagues where individual cases require coordinated support.
  • Record and share recurring case themes relating to wellbeing, absence and inclusion to support appropriate follow-up activity.
