LIV Golf is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property & Brand Protection specialist to join its Legal Team in London as VP, Intellectual Property & Brand Protection, reporting to General Counsel - International. This is a high-volume, high-visibility role supporting a fast-paced and innovative business operating under tight timelines.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
External Counsel & International Case Management
- Partner with external counsel to manage complex, high-profile trade mark disputes, oppositions, and enforcement actions across multiple jurisdictions.
- Oversee international prosecution, opposition, and portfolio maintenance through close coordination with foreign counsel.
- Provide clear, strategic instructions, evaluate legal strategies, and manage budgets effectively.
Global Portfolio Management
- Drive the strategic management of the Company’s worldwide trade mark portfolio, ensuring timely filings, renewals, oppositions, and enforcement actions.
- Shape and execute global IP protection strategies to safeguard the Company’s intangible assets.
- Deliver regular, insightful reports to senior management on portfolio health, enforcement activities, and emerging risks.
Trade mark Enforcement & Infringement Response
- Draft, issue, and monitor cease-and-desist communications across jurisdictions.
- Maintain and analyse a centralised infringement database to identify trends, repeat offenders, and areas requiring strategic escalation.
Trade mark Search, Clearance & Risk Assessment
- Conduct preliminary trade mark searches across the UK, EU, US, and international databases (e.g., WIPO, USPTO).
- Produce risk assessments and clearance reports to support product launches, campaigns, and new initiatives globally.
- Advise stakeholders on potential conflicts, associated risks, and recommended mitigation strategies.
Brand Protection & Enforcement Support
- Monitor trade mark watch notices, social media, e-commerce platforms, and other channels for potential misuse of brand assets.
- Identify and act against unauthorised uses of the Company’s trademarks across digital and physical marketplaces.
- File and track takedown requests with online platforms, including major social media, e-commerce, and auction sites.
- Provide training and guidance to enforcement agencies to strengthen awareness of the Company’s IP rights.
- Monitor and address ticket touting and secondary ticketing market issues
- Build trusted relationships with senior internal stakeholders and deliver tailored IP/brand protection training.
REQUIRED SKILLS/WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR FROM YOU
- 10+ years post-qualification experience.
- Expertise in UK/EU trade mark prosecution and opposition; experience in other major jurisdictions strongly preferred.
- Significant in-house experience managing external counsel across multi-jurisdictional matters.
- Demonstrated success managing large, global trade mark portfolios.
- Proven experience conducting clearances and working with national/international databases.
- History of advising and supporting senior stakeholders in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
- Exceptional attention to detail and precision.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills to manage a heavy and varied caseload.
- Resilience under pressure, with the ability to deliver high-quality work to tight deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
