Role Overview
The Head of Medical is responsible for leading and delivering a high-quality, athlete-centred medical service for Leicester Tigers Women. This role ensures the health, wellbeing, and performance readiness of all players through evidence-based practice, strategic planning, and effective management of medical resources and medical staff.
Key Responsibilities
Medical Leadership & Service Delivery
• Lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of all medical services for the Leicester Tigers Women’s squad.
• Oversee injury assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation processes.
• Ensure best practice in player welfare, clinical governance, and return-to-play protocols.
• Collaborate closely with coaching, S&C, and performance staff to optimise player availability and performance.
PWR Medical Audit & Compliance
• Lead the completion and submission of the Premiership Women’s Rugby (PWR) Medical Audit.
• Ensure full compliance with league regulations, policies, and medical standards.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in line with governance and data protection requirements.
• Implement and monitor policies relating to concussion management, and emergency care.
Medical Budget Management
• Develop, manage, and monitor the annual medical budget.
• Ensure cost-effective allocation of resources while maintaining high standards of care.
• Oversee procurement of medical equipment, supplies, and external services.
• Provide regular financial reporting and forecasting to senior management.
Staff Management & Development
• Line manage all medical staff, including physiotherapists, doctors, therapists, and support personnel.
• Coordinate staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage for training, matches, and tours.
• Conduct performance reviews, appraisals, and ongoing professional development planning.
• Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performance working environment.
Recruitment & Intern Programme
• Lead the recruitment and onboarding of medical interns and placement students.
• Design and implement a structured internship programme to support learning and development.
• Provide mentorship, supervision, and feedback to interns and junior staff.
• Build relationships with universities and educational institutions to attract emerging talent.
