The Technical Director will lead all technical elements for the club’s Women’s programme, ensuring a clear playing philosophy, aligned pathway, and high-performance environment from the academy through to the first team. This role is central to the club’s ambition to compete effectively in the Women’s Championship (WSL2).

You will oversee recruitment, coaching, performance, sports science, and player development, providing strategic leadership while supporting the Head Coach in delivering on-pitch success.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities:


Football Strategy & Leadership:

  • Develop and implement the club’s overarching football philosophy and long-term sustainable technical strategy.
  • Drive alignment between first team, development squad, and academy.
  • Build a positive, inclusive, high-performance culture across all football departments.
  • Provide the Director of Football Operations with comprehensive technical departmental dashboards suitable for presentation at Board Meetings.
  • Manage the player budget and provide regular updates to senior management.

Player recruitment and Talent ID:

  • Lead recruitment strategy, scouting, and market analysis for first team and Academy.
  • Identify and acquire talent appropriate for WSL2 with the potential to advance to WSL1.
  • Maintain strong domestic and international talent networks.
  • Ensure that optimal value is achieved in negotiations of incoming and outgoing players.

First Team Performance:

  • Oversee first-team environment, working closely with the Head Coach on squad planning and performance processes.
  • Integrate sports science, medical, performance analysis, and wellbeing functions into a unified high-performance model.
  • Ensure best-practice preparation, load management, and player development.
  • Strategically lead recruiting efforts in identifying and assessing suitable technical staff.

Pathway & Academy Oversight:

  • Oversee the Girls’ Academy, Development Squad, and player pathway programmes.
  • Ensure compliance with FA/WSL academy standards and safeguarding expectations.
  • Establish clear progression routes and support dual-career athletes with education/employment balance.

Sports Science & High Performance:

  • Work with the Head of Performance to lead an effective multidisciplinary performance team to support high performance (medical, S&C, sports science, psychology).
  • Implement data-informed performance systems appropriate for WSL2 resources.
  • Monitor injury prevention, recovery processes, and player wellbeing.

External Relations:

  • Represent the club at FA/league technical forums.
  • Build partnerships with universities, academies, talent hubs, and community organisations.
  • Support commercial and community teams with football-related activity where needed.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • UEFA A Licence (minimum), UEFA Pro Licence desirable.
  • Proven leadership in elite football environments (Head Coach, Academy Director, Technical Lead, Sporting Director).
  • Strong understanding of the women’s game, WSL/WSL2 landscape, and player trading markets.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and planning skills.
  • A comprehensive understanding of governance and legislative framework related to transactions involving domestic and international players

Desirable:

  • Experience in women’s elite football.
  • Familiarity with recruitment/analysis platforms (Wyscout, Hudl, StatsBomb).
  • Familiarity with Performance platform (Kitman Labs)
