Exeter Chiefs Women are looking to recruit an Athletic Performance Intern (can be post-undergraduate) to undertake support of the performance department in operations, preparations and delivery of athletic development activities to all players.

The intern will be immersed in the day-to-day operations of the performance department, from on-field activities through to the gym. The full-time year-long placement will challenge the intern to work cohesively as part of a team and challenge their understanding of athletic performance principles in an applied setting.

What you will gain:

  • Develop a firm understanding of athletic performance principles and ability to utilise them in an applied setting.
  • Applied coaching experience in a variety of on and off-pitch environments across all areas of athletic development (strength and power, speed, conditioning, contact skill).
  • Learn to work cohesively as part of a multi-disciplinary team (MDT).
  • Gameday experience (including away travel).
  • Autonomy to develop and implement new ideas with coaching and delivery.

Main roles and responsibilities:

On pitch:

  • Equipment readiness and setup for training and matches (inc. hydration, supplements and training equipment)
  • Assist the Head of Athletic Performance in the delivery of sessions
  • Prepare athletes to train
  • Record-keeping of training activities

In the gym:

  • Equipment setup and readiness for training (inc. programmes, training kit and preparatory exercises)
  • Supporting athletes in-session
  • Testing and monitoring
  • Progression towards programming for players through a case-study basis

For nutrition:

  • Ordering and stock check
  • Gathering player feedback
  • Supplement guidance and resources

On a gameday:

  • Preparation of athletes to play
  • Kit preparation and transport
  • Changing room setup
  • Pitch setup
  • In-game responsibilities (inc. warm ups, message delivery, hydration)
