The Students' Rugby Football Union (SRFU) is recruiting a volunteer Welfare and Behaviour Lead to champion positive culture, player welfare and good practice across student rugby in England.

The Role

This volunteer role gives the SRFU a dedicated lead for behaviour, discipline and player welfare. You will represent the organisation at key sector forums, act as the SRFU's RugbySafe lead and advise the Full Committee and Board on emerging issues, risks and developments. The role focuses on oversight, representation and influence rather than case management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Chair the Higher Education Rugby Union Disciplinary Group and lead discussions on behaviour, discipline and welfare across the student game
  • Act as the SRFU lead for the Higher Education Behaviours Charter, Protect Our Game
  • Build effective relationships with the RFU, BUCS, member institutions and other stakeholders
  • Represent the SRFU at national meetings and forums on welfare, safeguarding, behaviour and discipline
  • Advise the Company Secretary, Full Committee and Board, escalating significant welfare, reputational or regulatory risks
  • Oversee the RFU RugbySafe framework as it applies to SRFU activities, including the England Students programme

About You

  • Current or recent involvement in rugby union, higher education sport, or both
  • Working knowledge of disciplinary and safeguarding frameworks in sport
  • Credibility to represent the SRFU with the RFU, BUCS and member institutions
  • Sound judgement and discretion, and willingness to escalate matters rather than resolve them independently
  • Desirable: relationships within the RFU, BUCS or university sport, and a relevant safeguarding qualification

Key Details

  • Location: Remote (England)
  • Contract: Voluntary position
  • Closing date: 29 November 2026 at 11:59pm
  • Interviews: week commencing 7 December 2026, via Microsoft Teams
  • Appointment is subject to two satisfactory references and RFU safeguarding training
