Nature and Scope:
Supporting the plan to create a cohort of talented head coaches, Directors of Rugby and high performing community coaches working at all levels of the game with a specific emphasis on increasing the support of female coaches in English Rugby. They will support the development of coaching content, qualifications and learning programmes. The role holder will provide 1:1 mentoring and small group support for coaches working towards / in the early stages of professional coaching careers in their club, school, college or university. They will have a strong focus on diversity and inclusion, championing the RFU commitment to increasing participation in all aspects of our sport and bringing more diversity to rugby union. The role will require evening, overnight and weekend work to support coaches as and when required.
What will you be doing?
Some key responsibilities include:
- Work under the direction of the National Coach Development Manager to support and develop high performing community coaches in their own environments.
- Deliver on and mentor coaches enrolled on the England Rugby Advanced, Performance Coaching and Director of Rugby Award Courses.
- Working closely with the performance department to design, develop and deliver world leading digital, social media and face-to-face content for coaches
- Design content for England Rugby Coaching Award and online Continuous Coach Development
- Develop and implement self-reflection tools to support Female coaches to create individual development plans.
- In conjunction with National Coach Development Manager, design and deliver a coach development model for female coaches at all levels of the game to increase confidence and competence.
- Design and deliver digital and in person resources to support female coaches.
- Provide training and guidance for professional female players transitioning into coaching.
- Effective communication between the RFU and other external stakeholders such as UK Coaching, UK Sport, Sport England and other NGBs.
- Establish and monitor communities of practice for specific coaching domains.
- Actively collaborate with colleagues to contribute to the development and delivery of the current strategic, business and operational plans.
- Act as an ambassador for, and promote the best interests of the RFU, including the promotion of our culture and core values – This Rose Means Everyone: Put The Team First, Shape The Future, Respect Each Other.
- Undertake other duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post and the needs of the organisation.

What you Know:
Essential:
- Current driving licence.
- Experience of designing and delivering experiences for coaches
- Experience of mentoring and supporting coaches, and/ or holds mentoring qualification
- Demonstrable expertise in the delivery of face-to-face training.
- Demonstrable expertise in the delivery of online learning and mentoring.
- Demonstrable expertise in competence assessment.
- Ability to build and maintain rapport and work collaboratively with others.
- Highly self-motivated and able to work under own direction to achieve stated objectives within the necessary timescales.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to engage and influence at all levels.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to accurately self-reflect on one’s own performance and behaviours.
- A proactive, positive team member with a willingness to contribute to the team’s objectives.
- IT literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Office Applications and online learning platforms.

Desired:
- Coaching subject matter expertise - holds an England Rugby or other sport Coaching qualification.
- Experience of working with regional agencies in sport and practical experience of the operational workings of rugby union and of club rugby.
- Ability to analyse complex problems and create bespoke solutions.
- Skilful in report writing and delivering effective presentations.
- Strong organisational skills with an ability to effectively manage a specific area of responsibility (e.g. budgets, training, operations, processes, projects).
- Identifies, develops and maintains relationships and partnerships internally and externally.
