YOU’LL BE DOING

  • To appoint (and re-appoint) PUT umpires to professional cricket in England and Wales, taking into consideration their panels, performance and potential.
  • To facilitate and support match officials’ readiness for every competition.
  • To implement an effective performance management process, drawing upon feedback from ECB match referees and PUT umpire coaches to monitor and evaluate performance.
  • To deliver regular learning opportunities to ensure that PUT umpires, employing modern delivery methods and, where appropriate, engaging other subject matter experts.
  • To maintain a development pathway that ensures umpires with the potential to progress have the support and opportunity to do so.
  • To ensure that the Men’s and Women’s International Panels comprise the maximum number of permitted ECB umpires, each performing consistently to the required standard.
  • To work with the National Panels Manager to identify, and provide opportunities to, umpires with the potential to progress to the PUT.
  • To ensure that match official regulatory matters are carried out effectively and efficiently.
  • To work with external providers to ensure that PUT umpires’ well-being and psychological needs are monitored and supported.
  • To maximise the effectiveness of the umpire coaches through supporting their development, allocating and deploying them effectively.
  • To regularly attend professional cricket matches, observe umpires’ performance and provide feedback to them (through the coaches, if more appropriate).
  • To be a subject matter expert in the Laws of Cricket, playing conditions and regulations, both domestic and International.
  • To establish and maintain data relating to appointments, availability and performance.
  • To establish and maintain effective relationships with PUT umpires and umpire coaches, FCC DoCs and Head Coaches, ECB Domestic Cricket Operations and Officiating Department staff.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING:

  • Current officiating practices
  • Characteristics of high performing match officials
  • Playing and officiating structures in professional cricket, domestically and internationally
  • Laws, playing conditions and regulations within professional cricket

EXPERIENCE:

  • Officiating in professional sport (preferably cricket)
  • Coaching and mentoring people in a performance environment
  • Managing performance management processes
  • Managing people who operate remotely
