EFL in the Community, the charitable arm of the English Football League, is looking for a Head of Finance to join its Senior Leadership Team.
The Role
You will be responsible for the charity’s financial strategy and governance, providing advice and guidance across the 72 Football Club charities. Under the shared services model, the role reports to the EFL’s Group Head of Finance and Chief Financial Officer, and separately to the Director of Community.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead the organisation’s financial strategy
- Report the financial position and risk profile to the Audit and Risk Committee, Board of Trustees and external stakeholders
- Oversee monthly management information, financial dashboards and performance measures
- Manage the finance team, budgets, forecasts, cash management and banking relationships
- Manage the distribution of income to partner Football Club charities
- Oversee VAT returns, the annual audit, annual financial statements and the Charity Commission return
- Lead governance, risk and compliance arrangements alongside the Contracts, Risk and Data Protection Manager
About You
- A CCAB-qualified accountant with substantial post-qualification experience in a senior finance leadership role
- Strong knowledge of charity accounting, the Charities SORP, restricted and unrestricted funds, audit and charity VAT
- Experience advising senior leadership teams, Audit and Risk Committees and Boards of Trustees
- Experience of grants, contracts, partner payments and financial due diligence
- A record of improving financial controls and finance systems
- Experience leading and developing a finance team

- Salary: £60,000 – £65,000 per year
