Charlton Athletic Women are seeking a dynamic and creative Communications Manager to lead and deliver the team’s communications strategy. This role will be responsible for enhancing the club’s profile, growing fan engagement, supporting commercial objectives, and ensuring consistent, high-quality messaging across all platforms.

The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced sporting environment, demonstrate excellent editorial judgement, and understand the unique opportunities within women’s football.​

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES​

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with the club’s objectives.​
  • Lead on all media relations, acting as the primary contact for press and broadcast partners.​
  • Manage matchday communications, including press operations, media briefings, and post-match content.​
  • Oversee content planning across digital platforms in collaboration with the marketing team.​
  • Produce high-quality written materials including press releases, features, interviews, and official statements.​
  • Protect and enhance the club’s reputation through proactive messaging and effective issues management.​
  • Identify storytelling opportunities that elevate player profiles and promote the team’s identity.​
  • Support commercial initiatives through integrated communications campaigns.​
  • Ensure alignment with the wider Charlton Athletic brand and communications approach.​
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, league officials, and external partners.​
  • Proven experience in a communications, PR, or media role - ideally within football.​
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.​
  • Strong media network and understanding of the UK sports media landscape.​
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform under pressure.​
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.​
  • Willingness to work flexibly, including matchdays.​

Desirable:​

  • Experience in women’s sport or football.​
  • Crisis communications experience.​
  • Multimedia content awareness (social, video, digital trends)​
  • Knowledge of league media operations.​

MAIN JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION​

Education/Qualifications/Training:​

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Public​Relations, Business Administration and/or Journalism ​

Specific Experience:​

  • Demonstrated experience leading campaigns ​
  • Brand management exposure ​
  • Budget ownership ​
  • Stakeholder engagement (internal and external) ​
  • Team supervision ​
