Location: Paralympic Games Environment, Los Angeles, USA (During the Games period) and Various Locations in the UK/Online (During the Pre-Games Planning period)

Role Purpose
In conjunction with the CMO, Head of Performance Services and other Lead practitioners, the Lead Physiotherapist is responsible for leading the planning, management and provision of physiotherapy services and processes for ParalympicsGB before, during, and, where applicable, after the LA 2028 Paralympic Games. Ensuring a seamless level of service provision through Preparation into Games.
Reporting To: ParalympicsGB Chief Medical Officer
Responsible For: ParalympicsGB Team Physiotherapists
Location: LA locations will be dictated by the role demands, but will
include Santa Barbara ParalympicsGB Preparation Camp,
Central Los Angeles for the Games Village and
ParalympicsGB’s out of village HUB, and key sport clusters,
including but not limited to Long Beach.

Dates: Final travel dates to be decided by Sports Science and
Medicine Leadership group; with a requirement to be
available for both the games preparation phase and games
time competition phase.

• Preparation camp start date 1st August 2028
• Games Dates - 15th – 27th August 2028 – please note,
a number of sports start their competition campaign
before the opening ceremony.

Upon successful selection for the role, a number of pre
games dates will be agreed to ensure role planning, team
planning and broader Team Development Programme (see
Core Commitments section) can be delivered successfully.

Additional requirement to be available for planning meetings
and Team Development Programme :
• TDP 1: 12th & 13th October 2027
• TDP 2: 10th & 11th May 2028

Key Responsibilities

This list of key responsibilities is not designed to be exclusive or exhaustive and other activity may be considered as part of the fulfilment of the role.
Role Purpose : In conjunction with the CMO, Head of Performance Services and other Lead practitioners, the Lead Physiotherapist is
responsible for leading the planning, management and
provision of physiotherapy services and processes for
ParalympicsGB before, during, and , where applicable, after the
LA 2028 Paralympic Games. Ensuring a seamless level of
service provision through Preparation into Games.

Strategic Leadership & Management :
• To operationally lead and manage the Physiotherapy
Team including all physiotherapists and, where
applicable sport massage therapists in LA, including
implementing rotas, ensuring consistency and quality
of services.
• To be responsible for the planning and coordination of
ParalympicsGB’s physiotherapy services through
Preparation into Games, through the establishment of
effective communication pathways.
• Procurement, provision and management of equipment
and consumables.
• To liaise with key partners and stakeholders within the
Games environment.
• To support the post-Games evaluation, assimilation
and reporting of medical services, as required.

Delivery : • To provide World Class physiotherapy services as part
of the ParalympicsGB core team.
• To provide both physiotherapy clinical skills and
expertise to all sports and practitioners, as required.
• To provide mentoring support to any ‘new’
physiotherapy staff.
• To develop and implement ParalympicsGB’s agreed
infection control strategy (and other standard
operating procedures).

• To establish and maintain effective communication
pathways to ensure the highest level of care, whilst
respecting confidentiality.
• To act as an anti-doping chaperone, as required.
• To comply with statutory requirements for
physiotherapy and the Chartered Society of
Physiotherapy / HPC standards and codes of
professional conduct.

Risk Management:
• To ensure accurate clinical records are maintained in
line with ParalympicsGB’s policy on data management.
• To ensure risk assessments are undertaken when
appropriate.
• To ensure all adverse incidents are appropriately
reported.
• To develop and ensure implementation of protocols,
procedures and guidelines, both clinical and
organisational, as required.

Miscellaneous : • To support all areas of the Games programme, as
required.
• To fulfil non-specified duties, on an agreed basis, at
the request of the Chef de Mission/line manager.

These additional responsibilities are subject to review and
may be updated from time to time.

Key Role Requirements
Qualifications : Essential:
• Degree in Physiotherapy
• Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
(MCSP)
• Registered with the Health and Care Professions
Council (HCPC)
• Appropriate pre-hospital trauma care qualification as
ratified by Faculty of Pre-hospital Care, Royal College of
Surgeons, Edinburgh

Desirable:
• Higher degree (or equivalent) specialising in Sports
Physiotherapy / Sport and Exercise Medicine / Sports
Rehabilitation

Experience and Knowledge :
• Experience of delivering physiotherapy services at a
major Games e.g. Paralympic/Olympic Games or other
major multi-sport event
• Experience of leading, managing and developing
Physiotherapy practitioners in an elite sport
environment
• Current (or very recent) and regular engagement
specifically in the delivery of Physiotherapy services to
Paralympic athletes
• Recognised as a technical expert in the delivery of
physiotherapy services to Paralympic athletes
• A thorough working knowledge and understanding of
the current WADA anti-doping regulations

the Paralympic Games, this role requires a Disclosure
and Barred Services (DBS) check. In accordance with
this, all applicants are asked to complete a self
