The Participation Development team is responsible for the implementation of strategic initiatives which deliver exciting rugby experiences and supports our communities to deliver rugby as well as influencing long term & sustainable change resulting in ‘More People Growing Rugby’ across Auckland.

Auckland Schools network consists of approximately 45 rugby playing Secondary schools & over 200 Primary schools which equates to more than 10,000 boys and girls playing across both schooling spaces.

You will be one of four Rugby Delivery Leads who are responsible for implementing the Schools & Experience strategy working alongside both Primary & Secondary schools to develop a system whereby both sport and schools are custodians for the holistic wellbeing of our young players.

Reporting to the Rugby Experience & Schools Manager, you will have designated Primary and Secondary schools that are your responsibility. The role will include but not limited to:

  • Playing opportunities – create and deliver participation opportunities and rugby experiences to promote a lifelong love of the game within Primary and Secondary school-aged students
  • Development programmes – lead ‘coach the coach’ and all on-the-grass delivery of rugby programmes in Primary and Secondary schools, focus on upskilling and building capability with existing coaches and teaching staff and oversee the Rugby Administrator in Schools (RAIS) programme
  • Building capability – promote participation opportunities and create and deliver education opportunities
  • Connecting communities – build and maintain meaningful relationships with Primary and Secondary schools, lead all communication for your designated schools and facilitate positive relationships between Schools and Clubs

Skills and experience

  • Two years’ experience in a similar role with an understanding of School and Club rugby environment
  • Qualification in in Sport & Recreation, Education, Sports Management or PE
  • World Rugby Coaching Education certification
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of the rugby landscape; within schools and club is advantageous
  • Proven relationship management skills
  • Creative problem-solving and excellent organisational skills
