Glasgow Life is looking for an Event Officer – Operations – World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24 to join us on a full-time basis for a fixed term contract through to March 2024. As Event Officer – Operations, you will join the dedicated team planning for the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24.
This is an incredibly exciting opportunity to join the team in a key role within the Operations functional area, supporting event operations across all functional areas and coordinating the delivery of goods and services.

Following on from the success of staging the European Athletics Indoor Championships in 2019, Glasgow is delighted to host the World Athletics Indoor Championships for the first time in Scotland and the third time in the United Kingdom in 2024. From 1-3 March, we look forward to welcoming athletes, officials, and spectators from across the globe to Glasgow’s Emirates Arena. The event will bring new ideas, partnerships and initiatives to the city. The team is currently expanding to ensure the success of the event itself, alongside social impact and community engagement projects that will leave a lasting legacy for Glasgow and beyond.

The Events team delivers high-profile events throughout the year, including Merchant City Festival, Glasgow Mela, the World Pipe Band Championships and Glasgow’s winter events. The team delivered the UCI Cycling World Championships in 2023, is delivering European Capital of Sport 2023 and is building a team to deliver the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24. Our team works on behalf of the Glasgow Events Board and acts as an initial point of contact for events coming to the city. We work with local, national and international partners to maximise the benefits of events to the city and evolve, position and promote Glasgow as a world leading event destination. The role
Working as part of the Operations functional area of the Local Organising Committee for the World Athletics Indoor Championships Glasgow 24 , this role will involve coordinating the delivery of goods and services across all functional areas. Essential for this role are knowledge, understanding and experience of event delivery operations. Strong project management skills and the ability to manage a variety of contractors will also be key to this role.
This role will report to the Event Manager.
If offer is made to internal (Glasgow Life or Council Family) for Fixed Term roles, at the end of the temporary period, eligible employees, if agreed will have a right to return to a role at their substanstive grade within the council family.
The candidate
If you are interested in joining us as Event Officer – Operations you’ll need:
- Training and/or experience in cultural/sporting events sector or venue management
- Planning and operations experience within large projects
- Ability to balance delivering high quality work across multiple areas
- Strong partnership working skills
- Excellent communications skills

This role involves hybrid working, with teams working between the office and home. Your line manager will agree these days with you. This balance will enable you and the team to continue much-needed collaborative working.
