Role Summary
- Develop a future workforce with the right skills, experience & knowledge to support WRU’s ambitions to grow the game in Wales
- Undertake high quality training leading to a range of recognised qualifications
- Mentoring and experience of working alongside professionals from the WRU including Rugby officers and School club/hub officers
- Develop personal qualities such as leadership, confidence and responsibility.

Key Responsibilities,
Tasks and Activities
- Assist with school/club hub schemes of work
- Support regional programmes as directed by Rugby officers and Regional Rugby Managers
- Support National activities as directed by WRU Rugby Development Apprenticeship Manager
- Support Commercial activities
- Study Level 3 (Extended Certificate and Diploma) in Sport Development
- Undertake essential skills assessment
- Carry out duties in support of the WRU Group Strategic Mission, Purpose and Values
The WRU Rugby Development Apprenticeship Programme provides young people with recognised qualifications, new skills, knowledge and a wealth of experience working as a Rugby Development Apprentice.
During the 12 month programme, the young people will work toward a Level 3 Diploma in Sport Development and will also be required to complete a range of rugby related technical qualifications. They will be supported and mentored by WRU development staff and receive pastoral assistance from the WRU Apprenticeship Officer.
This Apprenticeship can be a stepping stone for someone who is undecided if university is an option for them. It can give the opportunity to discover the various courses that may appeal based on real experience gained through the programme. As a 12 month employment programme, the apprenticeship also provides the opportunity to explore various options of career pathways utilising the wide network the WRU Group can offer. It is a chance to experience the world of sport development whilst achieving a Level 3 qualification. It is not aimed at university graduates. For this enriching 12 month experience, WRU rugby development apprentices receive £9500 plus expenses.
