The University of Nottingham are seeking to appoint a passionate, dynamic, and innovative person into the role of Participation Sport Officer.

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of social sport programmes aimed at both students and staff.

The post holder will lead on the co-ordination and delivery of various programmes and events, including but not limited to; the Just Play programme, Girls' Night In and staff sport activity.

Alongside project management, they will be responsible for the management of both staff and student volunteers and manage a delegated budget to run all programmes successfully. Building relationships with external partners, and internal stakeholders will be key to the role.

To deliver successfully you will have experience of project and events management, be able to work independently and within a range of teams and have a creative flair with a desire to be innovative and try new things. Knowledge and understanding of the Higher Education sports sector will be crucial for the post-holder.

The role will form part of the Participation team within UoN Sport and be predominantly based at David Ross Sports Village on our University Park Campus. All candidates will need to be flexible in their approach to their working week, noting that evening and weekend work will be required regularly to deliver successfully in the role.

Purpose of role

To support delivery of the University’s Vision for Sport through the strategic and sustainable development of introductory and intermediate level participation sports programmes both in person and virtually. To provide accessible opportunities for students and staff to partake in a variety of social, recreational sporting activities, ensuring pathways to sports clubs and further opportunities with the aim of delivering the best possible student sporting experience.


Main responsibilities

Programme and Event Delivery

  • Lead on the coordination and delivery of all participation focused events, including but not limited to Girls Night In and targeted 60% events.
  • Oversee and manage the Moves app – a physical activity-based app to encourage movement and the activity aligned to it.
  • Coordinate the facility bookings needed for all programmes in partnership with the operations and facilities teams.
  • Devise systems for the collection of data, feedback, registration, and attendance for all programmes and events.
  • Work with the wider UoN Sport development team to ensure a holistic approach to sport is encompassed and a clear pathway is available for students at all levels.
  • Devise innovative solutions to engage and increase participation levels of the general student population across all campuses with a focus on specific target groups.
  • Coordinate and implement the termly Just Play social sport programme across all 3 campuses.
  • Implement ideas (alongside the Residential Experience Team) to increase activity being delivered outside of the sports facilities.
  • Lead on the development, planning and delivery of staff sports activity, including clubs, one off events and regular activities.

People/Volunteer Management

  • Lead on the recruitment, management, training, and work programmes of part-time student ambassadors.
  • Provide administrative support and strategic direction to ensure the programme is administered efficiently, effectively and in line with the social sports programmes.
  • Work with the student clubs to recruit student volunteers to deliver the social sport programmes and events.
  • Deliver a training programme for students to enhance their confidence and skills to support the delivery of our programmes.
  • Develop, utilise and sustain a group of staff ambassadors to aid the engagement of staff in sport and physical activity.
  • Collaboratively work with the health and fitness team to embed relevant fitness sessions into the programmes.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with external instructors to support the delivery of the programmes.

Financial Management and Reporting

  • Manage and be accountable for a delegated budget, ensuring that expenditure is within agreed limits.
  • Record all forms of expenditure and income and ensure that University financial processes are followed, and effective fiscal management is maintained.
  • Ensure all finance reports are completed for any associated funding grants.
  • Seek and apply to any relevant new external funds to enable the participation programme to grow and expand as appropriate.
  • Ensure effective data gathering and provide regular reports and statistics, demonstrating delivery against the Vision for Sport and other areas of note as required.

Partnership Liaison and Marketing

  • Facilitate mutually beneficial partnerships with National Governing Bodies and other external agencies to strengthen and develop our programmes.
  • Coordinate implementation of NGB student placements/officers and manage, encourage, and mentor those students on an annual basis.
  • Represent the University on all relevant steering groups, both internally and externally in a positive manner.
  • Lead on the marketing and promotion of the projects to ensure maximum awareness and uptake among the target groups.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and partners to coordinate and deliver supplementary elements of the programmes including but not limited to residential experience team, HR team, staff networks.
  • Work with the marketing team to enable appropriate promotion of all programmes and events through relevant online digital channels to staff and existing and prospective students.
  • Support with relevant webpage content and contribute context and content for newsletters, case studies and blogs.

Other

  • Support the delivery of other UoN sports related events and programmes including but not limited to, Open days, Varsity, Sports awards, and Welcome Fair.
  • Carry out other duties commensurate with the role that may be reasonably requested.
