UK Athletics (UKA) is seeking to appoint an Endurance Strategy Manager to join the UK National Governing Body. The successful applicant will lead the strategic alignment for UKA and work with Home Country Athletics Federations (HCAF’s) to ensure the performance system for endurance across the UK supports the development of athletes to achieve UKA performance targets and ambitions.

Hours - 21 hours (3 days) per week as required on an all hours’ basis

PURPOSE

  • To lead the strategic efforts for UK Athletics (UKA) and work with Home Country Athletics Federations (HCAFs) to ensure the performance system for endurance across the UK is aligned and supports the development of athletes to achieve UKA performance targets and ambitions.
  • To lead and manage UKAs responsibilities for off-track and non-Olympic endurance events.
  • To support Technical Director (Performance) and World Class Programme (WCP) Endurance Performance Manager with performance planning and implementation as required.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To work collaboratively with HCAFs and WCP to shape, implement and track a long-term endurance strategy that realises performance targets and ambitions for endurance events in the UK. This includes implementing review processes to understand current performance status of endurance pathways and athlete progression.
  • Establish, lead and manage non-WCP endurance related plans projects for UKA that are aligned and required for the strategy to be successfully implemented.
  • Work in collaboration with UKA talent pathway team and HCAFs to align competency frameworks and athlete development curriculums that underpin the World Class Programme.
  • Communicate strategies and frameworks to WCP, UKA and wider Endurance community.
  • Lead on endurance event and coaching advisory groups and have oversight of pathway endurance coaching recruitment.
  • Represent UKA at meetings regarding non-WCP endurance with internal and external stakeholders as and when required.
  • To act as the technical lead on endurance matters concerning UK Athletics (non-WCP), providing event specific knowledge (e.g. altitude, heat) as required
  • Lead UKA’s responsibilities for non-Olympic and off-track endurance disciples (road, cross-country, ultra, trail, mountain) includes:
    • Budget management.
    • Selection policies and processes.
    • Championship team selection.
    • Team leadership and staffing.
  • Support and work with the WCP Endurance Performance manager and Technical Director (Performance) to ensure there is seamless connection between the pathways and the WCP
  • To be a selector when required.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and collaborative skills, be a strategic thinker, and have experience of working with senior endurance athletes at senior international level (e.g. Olympic and World Championship).

Experience:

  • Broad knowledge of the full range of coaching and support services required to support athletics performance programmes. (E)
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of national and international athletics. (E)
  • Highly collaborative and works as an effective team member. (E)
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. (E)
  • Ability to plan, implement, manage and balance a complex programme of work within agreed timelines. (E)
  • Able to develop a strategic approach whilst able to adopt a responsive approach when required in complex, ambiguous and uncertain environments. (E)
  • Experience of working with senior endurance athletes at senior international level (e.g. Olympic and World Championship). (E)
  • Experience of working with and supporting individual athlete coaches. (D)
  • Experience in collating and analysing data associated with performance sports programmes. (E)
  • Experience of leading and managing teams. (E)
  • Experience of building coaching systems. (D)
  • Experience of managing and prioritising budgets. (D)

  • Education/Qualifications:
  • Degree level qualification. (D)
  • Recognised Athletics coaching qualification. (E)
