UK Athletics is seeking to appoint an Applied Biomechanist to support the delivery and development of applied biomechanics services for World Class Programme athletes at British Athletics. The role will involve working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to enhance the ability to understand and improve performance.
The successful candidate will be required to assist the senior biomechanics consultant in the delivery and development of biomechanics at the British Athletics High Performance Centre in Birmingham, and at other training environments as required, with the aim of ensuring coaches and athletes are able to make informed choices to maximise training and performance.
Support at domestic and international competitions and training camps will also be required.
Hours of Work: Such hours as necessary to carry out your duties. This will involve a minimum of 35 hours per week and may include working outside normal office hours at evenings and weekends and on Public Holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
Working closely with the head of performance support, senior biomechanics consultant, Olympic and Paralympic event performance leads and wider performance team, you will:
- Be an integral part of the British athletics team working with the athletes, coaches, and interdisciplinary services to deliver a world leading service that impacts performance decisions and ultimately improves athletic performance.
- Provide ‘front line’ biomechanics delivery in both the training and competition environments and support the senior biomechanics consultant through the collection and analysis of key data.
- Present objective data and information to coaches and athletes in a manner that engages and informs.
- Assist the senior biomechanics consultant and the data and performance analytics lead in the implementation, delivery, and evaluation targeted biomechanical and technology projects with a focus on the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
- Work to continually improve and develop the biomechanics service to ensure that British athletics have a competitive advantage on the international stage.
Required Experience:
- Experience in the provision of biomechanics support to elite sport athletes and coaches.
- Experience capturing, analysing and reporting kinematic motion data.
- Experience capturing, analysing and reporting kinetic data.
- A verifiable record of working within an inter-disciplinary team in the support to athletes.
