Reporting to the Stadium Grounds Manager, you will be responsible for the efficient delivery of grounds maintenance, associated services and processes that support all operational aspects of the business, setting and ensuring the highest standards of safety, grounds management and event delivery for our Stadium site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Liaising with the Stadium Grounds Manager, set and maintain high standards of work performance and deliver quality consistently, ensuring exemplary grounds maintenance services befitting of the high-profile venue, level of sport and national and international media exposure.
  • Deputise in the Stadium Grounds Manager’s absence.
  • Assist with the supervision and management of a successful grounds team including monitoring holidays, rotas, meetings, training and H&S.
  • To ensure that the Grounds Department buildings, plant, and premises are kept in a safe and secure manner.
  • Promote and maintain an exceptional health and safety culture, ensuring that safe systems of work, risk assessments and standard operating procedures are adhered to and in line with Tottenham Hotspur Football Club’s policies, legislation, compliance, training and industry best practice.
  • Work efficiently to fixed deadlines, providing effective communication and resolutions to ensure priorities are met and any issues are reported and settled successfully.
  • Ensure all playing surfaces are prepared to the highest possible standard for event days.
  • Organise and instruct match day staff, ensuring all staff are trained for every eventuality on an event day.
  • Be responsible for the safe use of all site machinery, ensuring it is safe to operate and has regular checks/servicing to optimise safety, reliability and overall life expectancy.
  • Demonstrate the utmost discretion when dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Research and test new products, materials and equipment ensuring data entry and tracking of chemical applications and any other grounds related activities including playing surface testing and performance data gathering.
  • Undertake additional duties designated by your Line Manager to ensure the smooth running of all operational aspects of the business.
  • Help develop and continuously review the Club’s sustainable practices.
  • Assist in the organisation and supervision of the Club’s Stadium transitions for multi-use events.
  • Offer support to the Club’s partner venues.
  • Demonstrate the highest levels of commitment and compliance to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people at all club sites.


  • Implement work schedules throughout the year to ensure the pitch is kept to the highest possible standard.
  • Prepare, establish and maintain grass swards.
  • Monitor soil nutrition through regular testing and set fertiliser schedules in conjunction with this data.
  • Management and operation of pitch grow lighting systems (HPS & LED)
  • When the pitch is outside the Stadium bowl, monitor daily and create best practices to ensure pitch remains in good health.
  • Perform daily checks to identify playing surface issues concerning pest, weed, disease and irrigation management, monitoring, diagnostics and treatment.
  • Work with the Stadium Grounds Manager to develop new methods and identity equipment to aid the preservation of the playing surface when stored in the pitch pocket/controlled environment.
  • Plan and implement playing surface renovations.
  • Manage inclement weather and prepare for all eventualities.
  • Assist in developing pitch storage and controlled environment strategies.
  • Manage pre and post-match works.
  • Assist with pitch protection products and installation procedures (Omnideck/Terraplas).
  • Assist with grow in and establishment procedures of turf pitch, while regularly monitoring the 10,000 m² of turf for installation at the start of each season.


  • Ensure the artificial pitch is maintained to world class standard and sanitised regularly.
  • Assist with the preparation of the artificial surface after the turf pitch has been removed.
  • Ensure correct markings are used on the pitch and organise removal following the event.


  • Keep up to date with industry developments/innovations.
  • Attend conferences and events to keep up with industry best practice.
  • Conduct onsite trials and testing of chemical and fertiliser products for continuous learning and cost efficiency.

Skills & Experience

  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent.
  • PA1, 2 & 6 spraying certificates.
  • Previous experience of working with hybrid and artificial surfaces.
  • 5 Years’ supervisory experience within a high-level sports turf environment.
