Job Purpose

The R&A is looking to recruit an Operations Manager to join the Championships Department. This varied role involves working with the Assistant Director – Championships to support the operational delivery of the AIG Women’s Open, one of five major championships in women’s golf.

The successful candidate will have significant experience in golf event operations, outstanding organisational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with key stakeholders. They will be an ’all-rounder’ who is willing and able to be versatile in the role.

Role and Responsibilities

Core responsibilities will be but not limited to:

  • To work with the Volunteer Programme Manager on volunteer programme management and co-ordinate policies and procedures with HR and Legal.
  • Manage GL Events on the design and build of grandstands.
  • Produce detailed plans and drawings to show movement of attendees around the venue to include the following:
  • Spectator routings, including working with the contractor on roping and staking the golf course and working with the venue on cutting for spectator routings where required.
  • Buggy routings around the venue for staff, contractors and TV personnel.
  • Player routings between courtesy car drop off, Players’ Clubhouse, range and practice facilities, 1st tee, 18th green, recorders, mixed /primary.
  • Routings for staff, media, hospitality guests.
  • To plan and manage the location of big screens and leader boards around the venue and liaise with stakeholders on content production and delivery.
  • Manage and produce plans for on course infrastructure such as tee furniture and on course advertising boards. This includes working with Rules and TV on changes to ad board locations daily based on TV coverage and pin positions to ensure value is delivered to sponsors of the championship.
  • Manage the planning and delivery of scoring infrastructure, liaising with the Scoring Partner for the championship and internal stakeholders.
  • Lead / attend Bronze Multi-Agency meetings.
  • Lead operational planning and delivery of the 72nd Hole and Prize Presentation Ceremony.
  • Planning of future AIGWO championships alongside the current edition.
  • Carrying out site visits to potential future venues to assess operational viability.

Other

  • This role will involve frequent travel within and potentially out with GB&I.
  • This role will involve being away from home for periods of time prior to and during the AIG Women’s Open.
  • Attendance at the Championships could cover periods of 2-3 weeks at any one time.

Qualifications Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience in events operations with the ability to work independently on the areas outlined in the job description.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to adapt to changing environments.
  • Experience of managing budgets.
  • Experience of working with or managing contractors.
  • Experienced user of Microsoft Office.

Hours: 35 hours per week, Mon – Fri 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Location: St Andrews (hybrid working or remote working will be considered)
