Job Purpose

The R&A is at the forefront in modernising the sport and making it more relevant to today’s society. The R&A’s purpose is to make golf more accessible, appealing and inclusive and to ensure it is thriving 50 years from now. Our Commercial department plays a key role in supporting that purpose and currently seeks to recruit a Marketing Coordinator to support the planning and execution of marketing campaigns and activities in relation to commercial activities of The R&A’s Championships.

The successful candidate will be required to engage and convert audiences through creative campaigns, activities and tactics which deliver growth across core revenue streams.

Reporting to the Marketing Manager – The One Club, the individual will be responsible for supporting the growth of The Open’s E-Commerce and The R&A’s championship Ticketing. Commercially focused with a creative and analytical mind, the individual will also play a big part in the growth and management of The Open’s owned and addressable audiences.

Job Description

Role and Responsibilities

Creation and Growth of Direct Revenue

  • Support in the creation of the marketing plans related to Ticketing for The Open.
  • Own the timely development and delivery of high impact, cost effective marketing plans in support of seasonal activity and events across owned E-Commerce (Merchandise).
  • Coordinate campaigns with 3rd parties to maximise returns and identify suitable target audiences.
  • Work and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Growth of an Owned and Addressable Audience

  • Support the wider marketing team in taking responsibility for The Open’s contactable audience, identifying gaps and growth opportunities and the mechanism to effectively engage these audiences.
  • Develop relevant strategies and tactics to drive growth of the known audience.


  • Manage, agree and deploy campaigns which utilise the most suitable channels (above and below the line) to balance awareness with conversion.
  • Identify new and innovative ways to drive cross and up sell revenue from engaged audiences.
  • Identify requirements to optimise customer journeys and work with Digital Channel Manager to define and deploy these.
  • Work with Digital Channel Manager to track, understand and react to performance throughout the course of a campaigns.

Qualifications and Experience


  • Educated to degree level, or equivalent work experience in a marketing role.
  • Strong knowledge of digital communications and understanding of a fully integrated marketing mix.


  • Experience or understanding of digital platforms such as email marketing, google analytics or CMS platforms



  • Ability to write engaging marketing copy for email, website or editorial purposes
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Strong organisational skills, with an ability to juggle multiple tasks and work to tight deadlines.
  • Proactive, self-motivated and ambitious with the ability to think for yourself.
  • An enthusiasm and understanding of marketing campaigns.


  • High standard of written, communication and presentation skills in English.
