We have an amazing opportunity for a Finance Director to lead our Finance team across the prestigious East region. The Jockey Club stages thrilling sporting occasions including the Randox Grand National, The Cheltenham Festival and The Cazoo Derby. Millions of people every year enjoy the special experiences we offer through racing, music, food and entertainment on racedays and beyond.

This Finance Director role will manage and direct all aspects of financial reporting, forecasting & analysis for the East Region proactively leading the Finance team to drive improved performance for the delivery of the region and groups objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure content and timing of financial planning and management reporting and analysis is in line with requirements
  • To provide support and advice to the senior regional team on financial and company secretarial issues as part of the Regional management team and as a strong and credible business partner.
  • Maintain strong financial controls to preserve integrity of financial reporting and avoid unnecessary one off adjustments. Drive balance sheet reconciliations and regular review of working capital movements as a priority. Ensure all expenditure authorized at the right level within the organization and the PO process is properly and effectively enforced.
  • To manage and motivate the East Region Finance team to produce accurate and timely outputs for a range of different stakeholders.
  • Represent the region in public as required. This may include attending some Saturday and evening race meetings and other events held outside normal office hours.
  • Present the business budget and underlying business performance trends with credibility and confidence, all the way up to Main Board level.
  • Actively participate and make a strong contribution to the Finance Leadership Team meetings and discussions on finance values, priorities and their implementation.
  • Maintain and develop on-going processes of sharing and spreading best practice, with the rest of the Finance Leadership team, in all aspects of financial and management reporting and forecasting, including streamlining and standardisation of processes.
  • Identify and grow talent within the Finance team. Ensure the right level and quality of resource is in place for current and future requirements and that those people are empowered and trusted to make decisions where possible.
  • Establish effective, collaborative and positive working relationships with other members of the senior management team in the region, including fellow Epsom Hotel Board members of the Finance Leadership team and more widely across JCR and the Jockey Club Group and externally with third party suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with the Group Financial Controller. The Group accounts are consolidated by the Group FC and it is imperative that the reporting requirements, back up, performance commentary and KPI’s are delivered in accordance with required timelines to enable this to happen smoothly.
  • Liaise with group-appointed insurance brokers to maintain appropriate levels of insurance cover for all businesses within the East region.

The successful candidate will have;

  • A sound understanding of accounting processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of best practice in financial procedures
  • Knowledge of relevant HMRC legislation
  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification with extensive PQE
  • Strong Commercial finance background
  • Ability to operate effectively at Management Team/ local Board Level and influence the decision making process for the right commercial outcome
  • Strong Stakeholder Management skills
  • Ability to work with a range of people across a complex and diverse business with multiple activities and revenue streams and influence the agenda
  • Strong record of leading and motivating teams to achieve and perform consistently

The successful candidate will be required to work evenings and weekends to support racing when necessary.
