Job Title: Football Strategic Projects Manager

Duration: Fixed term – 2 years

Introduction

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) is the governing body for Association Football in the Republic of Ireland. The FAI has primary responsibility for all regulatory and footballing aspects of the game in Ireland.

Reporting to the Director of Football, the Football Strategic Projects Manager is a key new role within a large Football Division. The Football Strategic Projects Manager will be involved in leading, supporting and managing projects as well as be responsible in the coordination of all aspects of the FAI’s overall football, technical and development strategies for all levels of Football in Ireland. This role presents a real opportunity to support transformational change in Irish Football, predominantly through the delivery of the newly created Football Pathways Plan.

The Position

An exciting opportunity to work for the Football Association of Ireland. The Football Strategic Projects Manager will be responsible in the delivery of Football Development-related projects. The Football Strategic Projects Manager will play a pivotal part in ensuring we meet all our strategic objectives and ensure all parts of the game are effectively supported, with a key focus on planning and the delivery of the newly created Football Pathways Plan as well as other related strategic football projects. The work that you will get to undertake will be varied but will include the following:

  • Leading a small team of Football Operations Coordinators to provide project management, coordination and administration support across the Football Division
  • Lead the business planning processes for the Football Division to include annual business plans which incorporate activities, budgets, human resources and KPIs
  • Track, monitor and measure progress of all strategic projects within the Football Division
  • Work with the Football Operations Coordinators to project manage all aspects of the implementation of the newly created Football Pathways Plan
  • Supporting the Director of Football and Football Leadership team to prepare strategic documents, presentations and recommendations that inform and enable leadership decision making on football development-related matters
  • Using qualitative and quantitative analysis to provide insights that frame new development opportunities and create an evidence base for decision-making
  • Managing the development and implementation of performance measures for the Football Division
  • Engaging and communicating regularly with internal and external stakeholders to build partnerships, understand requirements and shape ideas into deliverable projects
  • Ensuring there is a consistent delivery of a communication plan across the Football Division to engage staff in all strategic projects, and weekly operational matters
  • Responsible for the management of strategic risk across the Football Division, generating reports for the Director of Football and Football Leadership team, and relevant Committees and working groups
  • Working closely with the FAI Strategy team to ensure all systems and processes are aligned, including collaborating with other business divisions, namely Grassroots, League of Ireland and International Operations
  • Ensuring that there is a clear connection and collaborative working practices with all other business divisions, seeking opportunities to maximize the potential of resources

The Person:

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Demonstratable experience in a management consulting or corporate strategy role (or similar)
  • Significant project and program management experience
  • Stakeholder management experience in a multi stakeholder environment
  • Passion and enthusiasm to work in Sport and Football
  • Strong academic background, a good professional track record and be able to demonstrate a full range of soft skills to work effectively within an interdisciplinary environment
  • Excellent planning, organisational and presentation skills
  • High proficiency in MS Office (esp. PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Able to synthesize and clearly present decisions with strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to act independently on both project-based and analytical tasks
  • Comfortable working in an agile way, and with change and uncertainty
  • Able to work in a high-pressure environment and deliver against challenging deadlines
  • Willingness to learn new approaches and adapt to different working styles
  • Highly committed to self-development
  • Self-motivated and goal-oriented
  • Team player with high emotional intelligence, who seeks and acts on feedback
  • High level of communication and presentation skills
  • Analytical and process driven approach

Qualifications:

  • 3rd Level Degree
  • Project Manager Qualification

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate degree or above
