The Role

The Football Association is seeking to appoint up to three independent members onto its Futsal Committee to give specific input and advice on all matters relating to futsal.

The Futsal Committee reports directly to the National Game Board (NGB). The Futsal Committee receives delegated authority from The FA Board to provide governance oversight of futsal right through from the grassroots level of the game up to its international squads. This includes operational activities, initiatives to increase participation, player, coach and referee development, managing competitions and setting regulations.

Independent members have full status at Futsal Committee meetings and will be encouraged to air their views as equal members. They will have a full vote when any decisions need to be taken within the Futsal Committee.

The Futsal Committee currently comprises 9 members, including 8 who represent different stakeholders within the National Game. The independent members we are looking to appoint do not have to represent a specific stakeholder or community within futsal. We are looking for individuals who will bring their own knowledge and experience of futsal with, preferably, complementary skills to the existing FA Council Members on the Futsal Committee.

These include but are not limited to the following:

  • Knowledge of coaching futsal and coaching frameworks
  • At least 10 years visible involvement in futsal at any level
  • An understanding of the County FA operating model
  • An understanding of the challenges faced by various futsal stakeholders and contrast with the opportunities available to them
  • Demonstrate an understanding of sports governance and the role of a National Governing Body
  • Demonstrable experience in sports development and administration
  • Understanding of futsal as a game in its own right as well as a football development tool
  • Experience of operating a grassroots futsal club
  • Knowledge of sport in the education sector
  • Have a good understanding of competition administration

What we are looking for:

  • A passion for futsal, with skills, knowledge and experience derived from an active involvement in the game format.
  • A broad knowledge of the issues and challenges facing futsal at all levels of the game.
  • A specific understanding of equality, diversity, and inclusion matters.
  • The ability to scrutinise and challenge in a positive and constructive manner.
  • The ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with others (including fellow Committee Members, FA Staff, and colleagues from across the football family).
  • A willingness to act in the best interests of The FA without regard to personal interest or benefit.

The FA has adopted a Code of Conduct which set outs minimum standards of expected behaviour by FA Board, Council and committee members. This Code will also apply to the independent members of the Futsal Committee.

Time Commitment

The Committee generally meets five times a year. Meetings are usually held on a weekday at Wembley Stadium although meetings may also be held virtually through Microsoft Teams. The successful candidates will be appointed for 1-year term which may be renewed.

An allowance can be claimed for each meeting attended, with travel and subsistence expenses payable in addition.
