Main Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Director of Agronomy, the Agronomy Advisor will be responsible for working with tournament host venues in an advisory and support role primarily on the Challenge Tour so to ensure the Tour’s policies on course preparation are adhered to and will also provide the venues within the European Tour Destinations group with agronomic support.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

  • Providing support and (if needed) instruction to host venues to ensure that they are prepared to the highest standard and within the parameters set by the European Tour group’s Tournament Preparation Guidelines.
  • Implementing programmes agreed with the host venue under the guidance of the Lead Agronomy Advisor.
  • Monitoring the daily preparation of the golf course whilst liaising with the Lead Agronomy Advisor and Tournament Director to consider the changing conditions and feedback from members.
  • Being on stand-by throughout the tournament timeline to make decisions and implement plans to deal with bad weather.
  • With guidance from senior staff, build on existing relationships with host venues and ensure that the lines of communication are kept open throughout the event timeline.
  • With instruction and support from more senior members, the Advisor will deliver objectives and prioritise key issues through short term activity and forward planning.
  • Provide concise and clearly written reports with observations and recommendations to host venues and maintain regular communication throughout the timeline.
  • Other projects/duties assigned as relevant as per the needs of the business.

Knowledge & Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate would fulfil the following criteria:

  • Level 4 or HND in turf management including spraying certificates.
  • Hold a valid driving license.
  • Experience with different cultures and languages preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience of working at a tournament venue.

On a personal level, the candidate must have a positive ‘can do’ attitude; be comfortable working both on their own and leading small teams and rolling up their sleeves; have good interpersonal skills; and be committed and hardworking. Key attributes will be professionalism; organisational skills; empathy and integrity.
