Overview:

The vision for the 2025 cycle is to bring together themes of work in athlete health; intelligence, innovation, medicine, physiotherapy, multisport and rehabilitation within one Athlete Health Strategy that is embedded in performance. The associated Athlete Health strategy will support sports’ management of athlete physical and mental health and drive the delivery of outstanding athlete health initiatives to optimise availability for preparation and performance.

Role Summary:

This is an exciting role for an SEM doctor to work as part of the Athlete Health team focusing on (but not limited to) two areas of strategic priority; i) advancing priority illness prevention and management, and ii) female athlete health. The post-holder may also contribute to key elements of the EIS Athlete Health strategy aligned to some or all of: performance and health planning; system insight and learning; other EIS health initiatives; and supporting health governance. Reporting to the EIS Head of Sports Medicine, we see this unique role as critical to our success in delivering athlete health services and are seeking someone with a record of delivering and effectively communicating innovative health promotion projects and initiatives.

A fundamental part of the role is to work in an integrated manner as part of a range of multi-disciplinary teams within the EIS and World Class Programme Olympic and Paralympic Sports. The post-holder will work particularly closely with other members of the EIS Athlete Health Team that includes; Doctors (from a variety of specialities), Athlete Health Lead Physiotherapists, Mental Health Practitioners and Sport Scientists to understand and address sports’ priority health problems.

Main Tasks and Activities (may include some or all of the following)

  • Develop and drive best practice initiatives, protocols and projects related to the prevention and management of UK high performance system priority illness problems e.g. infectious disease, respiratory health, gastro-intestinal illness
  • Contribute to medical aspects of the Female Athlete Health and Performance workstream as required by the associated SEM Lead
  • e.g. contributing to the female athlete education programme, improvement of breast and pelvic floor health, best practice management of menstrual/hormonal cycle health, contributing to research.
