Job Outline

This new position will lead the development and delivery of an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy along with a Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan that will guide the work of the BMC and its partner organisations: ABC, NICAS, Mountain Training England (MTE), Mountain Training UK and Ireland (MTUKI) in this vital area.

Our Diversity and Inclusion Manager will work closely with the Chair of the BMC’s volunteer-led Equity Steering Group, as well as the group itself, and will utilise their experience and expertise to develop a plan that will guide the activity of all partner organisations and more broadly will influence the whole sector.

The Diversity and Inclusion Manager will liaise with and support their counterparts within the partner organisations and will act as a conduit for the broader partner network, the BMC’s Partners Assembly – a group that includes MTE, MTUKI, ABC, NICAS and other partners.

The post holder will drive measurable change through ownership of, and accountability for, key EDI objectives across the BMC, and be responsible for monitoring and reporting against Sport England outcomes in this area. They will work with EDI specialists within partner organisations to build an ‘inclusion first’ mindset across the sector.

The time is right for an innovative approach, one that delivers impactful programmes to help address systemic inequalities, enabling more participants from more diverse backgrounds to engage with and enjoy our activities.

We are looking for a creative, strategic, organised and people-focussed individual with a passion for sport. The post holder will focus their knowledge, skills, and experience on ensuring that our activities of climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are accessible and available to diverse populations.

The post holder will need to enjoy working in an informal and busy environment, interacting not only with the partners, but also with the different BMC departments and activity areas to support the delivery of our strategic goals.

To excel in this role, the post holder will need to develop strong relationships with key staff, volunteers and stakeholders. We are therefore seeking a confident, outgoing individual, with strong interpersonal skills, a diplomatic and professional approach, and a genuine interest in sport.
