About Us

Sydney University Australian National Football Club (SUANFC) is one of New South Wales’s oldest and largest Australian Rules Football clubs. Based on Sydney University’s Camperdown campus, the club proudly offers players of all abilities the opportunity to play AFL in Sydney’s Inner West. SUANFC fields teams across all levels (from amateur to semi-professional) and is highly active in the development and mentoring of local area youth groups and wider community engagement.

SUANFC is now seeking applications for the SUANFC Senior Men's Coach for the 2023 season, starting late November.

About the Role

The SUANFC Senior Men’s AFL Coach’s role is to manage the on-field performance of the club’s Senior Men’s team. The Senior Coach will oversee the development of the Senior Men’s team playing list’s skills, technique, knowledge, physical and mental conditioning.

In performing this task, the senior coach will provide leadership within the Club as a whole and assist the General Manager with the management of both Football and High Performance programs. This will include coach mentoring, player and coach recruitment, list management and junior development. The Senior Coach will position SUANFC as a benchmark Sydney AFL Club focusing on development of local players and contending for premierships. The Senior Coach will be instrumental in creating and maintaining sustainable models of excellence with respect to high performance, football operations and administration.

Whilst the Senior Coach is heavily absorbed in the success of the Senior Men’s list, they will demonstrate an ability to provide an enjoyable, inclusive and quality driven environment for players, coaches, volunteers and supporters.

About You:

  • Professional approach & ability to work in a University based environment
  • Highly developed leadership skills with the ability to engage and relate with players
  • Demonstrated strategic planning skills
  • Demonstrated football administration skills
  • Ability to prioritise, multi-task and work to deadlines
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Credibility within the local football community
  • Understanding of junior and senior football as well as talent programs in Sydney
  • Understanding of industry best practice with respect to talented player development, sports science, game plan and game sense, use of available technology and skills development
  • Hold a current Working With Children check
  • Previous Senior Coaching experience in Tier 2 standard competition (desirable)
