Sport Wales is the national organisation responsible for developing and promoting sport and physical activity in Wales.  We are the main adviser on sporting matters to the Welsh Government and are responsible for distributing National Lottery funds. We aim to not only improve the level of sports participation at grassroots level but also provide our aspiring athletes with the support required to compete successfully on the world stage.

We aim to bring sport to all communities, unlocking opportunities for equity and supporting better relationships with communities that have traditionally not been represented by sport.

The post holder will collaborate with existing and emerging networks to establish an external support network founded on authenticity and trust.

You will require no prior knowledge of Sport Wales funding as training and support will be provided as part of a full induction.

WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

You will work closely with the Sport Wales investment team, ensuring the community voice is represented in our grants functions and helping to support the maximum impact of the organizations funding streams. You will also work directly with the policy and communications teams to showcase the work that is done at community level and sharing the learning from those relationships.

Externally you will work to target funding towards clubs and organisations from underserved diverse communities, focusing on expanding funding and opportunities by race, gender, disability, sexual orientation and socio-economic backgrounds.

The post holder will collaborate with existing and emerging networks to establish an external support network founded on authenticity and trust.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

With the role focused on establishing trusted relationships across new community networks, you will need strong relationship building skills and the ability to communicate with individuals, groups and communities in their preferred settings.

Understanding and knowledge of the needs and motivations of different underserved communities in Wales is critical. Most importantly is the ability to listen, learn and support.

Good proactive organisational skills with the ability to prioritise your own workload especially under time constraints with conflicting demands.

JOB PURPOSE

The role will work to target funding towards individuals, clubs and organisations from underserved diverse communities, focusing on expanding funding and opportunities by race, gender, disability, sexual orientation and socio-economic backgrounds. As Sport Wales strives to strengthen its relationships with communities throughout Wales, including those that feel disconnected from the sport sector in Wales, this role will be integral in facilitating the building and rebuilding of these relationships. In order to increase our agility and responsiveness to the communities that require the most support, we will embed new practices to enhance our services and improve access to our work.

MAIN DUTIES

Work collaboratively with community clubs and organisations to raise awareness of Sport Wales’s funding opportunities, and provide support underserved communities in their application process.

Providing investment support and assessments to potential applicants, supporting organisations through the application process, empowering them to be confident to both apply again in future and have a positive experience of the funding system.

Provide support to unlock community groups to enhance their understanding and access of Sport Wales funding streams, through a range of methods including, but not limited to, drop-in events, funding fairs, webinars, club/site visits, networking opportunities, and formal and informal trade stands.

Building networks across diverse communities to help successful applicants support others in similar applications. Creating a network of club support.

Creating feedback opportunities for diverse communities to shape how Sport Wales funding adapts to emerging needs.

Sharing the challenges and opportunities around both funding and the wider sport sector faced by diverse community groups to better inform the offers of Sport Wales and its partners.

Fulfil responsibilities which contribute to delivering an exemplary service for Sport Wales in respect of our statutory duties, including Well-being of Future Generations (Wales), Equality, Welsh Language, Information Security, Risk Management, Safeguarding, Financial Regulation and Health, Safety & Environment.

Work flexibly, performing any other duties as required, where relevant to the post and appropriate to the grade.
