Job Description


Sport Wales is the national organisation responsible for developing and promoting sport and physical activity in Wales.  We are the main adviser on sporting matters to the Welsh Government and are responsible for distributing National Lottery funds. We aim to not only improve the level of sports participation at grassroots level but also provide our aspiring athletes with the support required to compete successfully on the world stage.

You will support the delivery of all aspects of the communications and digital work at Sport Wales, gaining an excellent understanding of the variety of work that is undertaken by a busy in- house communications team and our partners. You will be keen to learn and broaden your experience.

You will have a good eye for a story and be able to use your creativity to contribute to a wide range of communications activity. This will include writing engaging copy for our internal and external e-newsletters, the use of software to create and publish e-newsletters, coming up with ideas and developing content for our digital channels, drafting content for media releases, supporting the delivery of high-profile events and working closely with partners on campaigns.

As part of Sport Wales’ overall reputation management, you will ensure that all corporate communications incorporate agreed key messages and you’ll also support the monitoring of media activity. You will also be able to provide administrative support for key projects spanning all areas of the organisation.


You’ll be a key part of the communications and digital team and will work across all departments at Sport Wales as well as supporting the work of our partners.

You will use your knowledge of and passion for the latest communication and digital platforms to raise awareness amongst Sport Wales staff of new ways to engage with partners and grow our audiences in line with the Sport Wales strategy. This will include up skilling staff across the organisation, and where appropriate sharing your knowledge with partners to support their approach to communications.


You’ll be looking to start your career in the communications industry and you will be as passionate about finding new ways of engaging with audiences as we are. We’re looking for someone with plenty of ideas who can provide outstanding support for our Communications and Digital Team.

You will need to be equipped for the challenge that comes with being part of a small but busy in-house team. You may have a degree in a marketing, communications or a related subject or you may have built up some communications experience or interest in other ways. However you’ve developed your enthusiasm for communicating, this is a superb opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of communication disciplines.

  • To research and draft written copy for approval by Managers for media releases, briefings, newsletters, websites, presentations and other communication channels as appropriate.
  • Working across the organisation to gather content for the staff e-newsletter, and having responsibility for the e-newsletter’s production.
  • To support the delivery of the communications plan including proactively offering ideas to help raise the profile of Sport Wales and the work of our partners.
  • To support the delivery of events including providing administrative support.
  • To create digital content for internal and external audiences outlined in the digital content plan.
  • To work across the organisation raising awareness of the latest digital communication tools and encouraging staff to test new ways of communicating and engaging with stakeholders.
  • To provide administrative support including website and online platforms, updating databases, image libraries, and taking meeting notes.
  • To make connections with communications professionals amongst our partner network.
  • To assist with the production of reports and other corporate material by liaising with external design and print agencies and proof reading.
  • To monitor and identify issues that have the potential to cause significant reputational damage.
  • To work across the organisation to support the development and promotion of a learning programme based on the needs of the sector.
  • Fulfil responsibilities which contribute to delivering an exemplary service for Sport Wales in respect of our statutory duties, including Well-being of Future Generations (Wales),

  • Work flexibly, performing any other duties as required, where relevant to the post and appropriate to the grade.
