Job Description

Sport Ireland are looking for a motivated individual to join a dynamic and innovative team which manages the Government of Ireland’s investment in Sport Participation. The role, which will contribute to delivering participation initiatives in line with Sport Ireland’s Participation Plan, is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are looking to build a career in Sport, and to work with the state agency responsible for investment and development of sport in Ireland.

Job Purpose:

To support the unit manager to manage Sport Ireland’s participation initiatives. To develop and support projects and initiatives and work in cooperation with other units and external stakeholders such as Local Sport Partnerships, National Governing Bodies, Government Departments, and other state agencies.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and co-ordinate the development and implementation of several innovative participation projects and initiatives.
  • Develop and support strong working relationship with the Local Sports Partnership (LSP) network, National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and other funded bodies, which are key elements of the sports infrastructure in Ireland.
  • Coordinate grant management and administrative processes for the funding grants provided by the participation unit to the LSP Network and other funded bodies, liaising with relevant internal Units including finance, internal audit, governance, organisational development and change, cross collaboration.
  • Support the development and co-ordination of sport participation projects and new initiatives as required to increase sport and physical activity among key target groups.
  • Organise meetings, events, seminars (both online and in person) with key internal and external stakeholders on sport participation and physical activity initiatives and plans.
  • Assist with the review and evaluation of sport participation projects as required.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with various stakeholders at both a national and local level.
  • Assist in the development of a communications plan and campaign for sport participation which highlights the work and initiatives of the LSP network, and other funded bodies.
  • Compile periodic reports and presentations on unit activity and sport participation in Ireland as required.
  • Provision of administrative support in the areas of Freedom of Information, Data Protection, Risk Management, Legal Affairs, Internal Audit, Standards in Public Office returns and
  • Insurance and other areas of corporate services or governance as required.

  • Assist with the administration and management of programme activities including introduction of IT / technology solutions.
  • Support the management of the Unit’s budget, ensuring adherence to established financial controls.
  • Represent Sport Ireland at events and meetings as appropriate (including some out of hours and weekend work).

This is not an exhaustive list, and the role will include any duties required by Sport Ireland from time to time, which are appropriate for the position and the needs of the organisation.

Essential Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Third Level Qualification.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Excellent Project Management, Administration and Organisational skills.
  • Excellent presentation and written communications skills.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and communicate confidently with individuals at all levels within the organisation and with external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with operational planning and budgeting.
  • High level of efficiency and results focus with ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • A high level of proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Desirable Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience working in a busy office environment.
  • Experience with grant management and public procurement processes
  • Experience in sport development or in community development work.
  • Understanding of the key concepts underpinning the sport participation agenda.
  • Knowledge and experience in the following areas: media, marketing, sales, communications, PR.
  • Creative and Innovative with an ability to think critically and independently to bring new perspectives to bear on the participation function.
  • Analytical skills including a capacity to solve problems and make clear and realistic decisions.

Additional Information:

Contract: Full-time, Permanent Contract. (2 Roles Available)
Salary Scale: EO Standard Scale. The appointment will be made on this scale at a point in line with current Government Pay Policy. New entrants to the public sector commence on the first point of scale.
