Job Summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join Sport England’s Policy and Integrity team, building and maintaining effective relationships with a portfolio of key stakeholders and leading on projects to support our strategic ambitions.

Tackling inequalities is the key theme of Sport England’s 10-year strategy Uniting the Movement. Within our plan we have five big issues – Recover and Reinvent, Connecting Communities, Positive Experiences for Children and Young People, Connecting with Health and Wellbeing, and Active Environments. Through these big issues is where we see the greatest potential for preventing and tackling inequalities in sport and physical activity.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring our partners are working collaboratively to understand and promote diversity and inclusion in sport and physical activity, and to remove barriers which deny full participation.

There are two positions available, one permanent and one fixed term to approx. November 2023. Secondments welcomed.

Role Purpose

This role will report into one of the Heads of Equality/Disability and will be part of a team that will design workable solutions and help position our existing and future work so that it has the greatest impact.

You will have experience of working in equality, diversity & inclusion (EDI) and good working knowledge of some or all the various audiences under-represented in this space. Your ability to maintain positive working relationships with peers and senior colleagues, both internally and externally in the sport and physical activity sector, will be a key factor in this role.

Sport England recognises the positive value of diversity, promotes equality and challenges discrimination. We welcome and encourage job applications from people of all backgrounds, particularly where we are under-represented. Currently, this includes disabled people and those from culturally diverse communities.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • A strong understanding of diversity and inclusion and the barriers people face when trying to access sport and physical activity
  • Experience of engaging, influencing, and persuading internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of successfully managing relationships with external partners
  • Experience of organising competing priorities and organising workload to meet objectives and deadlines
  • Experience of reporting in to senior management and preparing reports for decision
  • Proven ability to advocate successfully and influence the efficient delivery of services
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex messages in different formats
  • Ability to work with confidence independently and as part of a team
