Job Summary

Working in collaboration with DCMS, we are seeking to appoint an individual who will lead a new, dedicated Loan Team within Sport England – providing leadership across functions including; portfolio monitoring, complex credit management, and contracts and operations as well as working in collaboration with Sport England Sport Policy experts.

This unique opportunity will enable the postholder to deploy their finance expertise and leadership skills to ensure standards in governance, risk and assurance are achieved while aiming to develop long term relationships with a diverse portfolio of borrowers across a range of sports organisations.

Role Purpose

The Loan Portfolio Director is responsible for the effective and efficient delivery of Sport England’s obligations with respect to the Sport Survival Package (SSP) loan portfolio which Sport England administer on behalf of the Government.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • An experienced finance professional with excellent communication skills, experience of interacting with Executive Management level individuals and a variety of stakeholders and advisors
  • Proven ability in team leadership ideally with previous experience of growing teams or working in a change environment
  • Strong evidence of senior leadership with track record of operating credibly at all levels in an organisation, including senior management, Government departments, and wider senior stakeholders
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to demonstrate a high degree of professional credibility
  • Proven ability to solve complex problems, and ability to build solutions and execute accordingly – balancing conflicting borrower needs and portfolio objectives as required
  • A strong understanding of the application of risk and governance with regard to Sport England’s position as Loan Agent for DCMS
  • A strong skillset in project management, delivering objectives in a timely manner
  • Consistent track record in delivery within a financial risk environment, managing colleagues to deliver outstanding results and synthesising analysis to provide high quality advice and inform decision making on financial and policy risk

Desirable

  • Knowledge of working in the public sector environment and its competing objectives would be desirable
  • Adept at building networks and able to influence senior stakeholders
  • Experience of managing and restructuring at-risk or distressed assets desirable, as part of a complex portfolio of exposures
