Role Purpose

The Head of Workforce Development is a permanent, full-time role. Job shares can be considered. This role can be based in either our Loughborough or Bisham office, or from home. Please note there will be some travel to London required.

You will work within our Partnerships team, and will support our external partners and stakeholders addressing the challenges facing the sport and physical activity workforce, which is made up of volunteers, coaches and the professional workforce.

You will deliver on Sport England’s aim to support the development of the wider sector workforce to be seen as professional and customer-focused. You’ll lead on designing workforce development initiatives, ensuring approaches are inclusive, accessible and people-centric.

Skills & Experience

Essential Skills required

  • Experience in delivering at least one of the following; leadership, organisational change or L&D programmes
  • A commitment and/or experience of working to address inequality in the workforce.
  • Experience of managing effective relationships to ensure delivery against set objectives
  • Experience of working in learning and development, organisational development or skills development and training
  • Highly innovative with an ability to think both strategically and creatively.
  • Highly developed stakeholder engagement and relationship management capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to write and present clearly and effectively to multiple audiences.
  • Highly organised with an ability to plan and deliver work to agreed timelines.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Shows a propensity for team-work and provides support to others when required.

Desirable skills

  • Previous experience of developing leadership and management capability across a diverse professional base.
  • Previous experience of engaging with a professional workforce to build both capacity and capability.
  • Learning and development or Organisational Development qualifications.
  • Experience of working in learning and development, organisational development or skills development and training.
