What is the role?
We are looking for someone to work within the Academy Sports Medicine & Science team for Southampton Football Club who wants to be a part of a progressive Sports Medical and Science interdisciplinary team promoting the health and well-being of the players. You will actively contribute in a medical and science department that is viewed as a centre of excellence in injury and illness prevention, injury management and cutting edge medical and science research development.
What will you be doing?
You will lead in providing a first-class Physiotherapy and Injury Prevention service to all Professional Development Phase (PDP) players, organising, developing and implementing the best methods of injury prevention, performance enhancement, rehabilitation, care and advice. Along with assisting and leading on first aid and pitch side cover for training and matches as required by the Department.
You will lead the assessment, treatment, organisation and rehabilitation PDP players, produce progressive injury rehabilitation programmes for all players you are responsible for based upon SFC principles along with assisting, when required to do so, in the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of First Team players.
You will work closely with Sport Scientists and Strength and Conditioning Coaches to ensure best methods of Academy player development are achieved ensuring there is complete integration between Departments for all conditioning programs and recovery strategies. You will need to ensure continuity within the under-PDP phase’s and oversee and evaluate the physiotherapists within the programme in conjunction with other Academy Physiotherapists.
Upon entry of Academy players into the programme you will provide a medical examination ensuring full liaison with Academy Doctors and Professional Development Phase Physiotherapist’s on such matters. You will also accompany players to scans and hospital appointments as requested by medical staff and at all times maintain accurate and up to date medical records for all registered Academy players. You will need to ensure players are educated in terms of injury prevention, injury care, post-match recovery, diet, drug awareness and whereabouts issues and will need to liaise with players, parents and staff in order to provide appropriate feedback on treatment of injuries.
As a Lead Physiotherapist you will need to assist in the professional development of all Academy Physiotherapists, supervise and mentor interns and students within the Sports Medicine Internship programme and be an active contributor to the Medical and Science Department IST program. This will include attending radiography CPD sessions, monthly departmental meetings, Player/Staff reviews and other Department events.
What are we looking for?
To thrive in this position, you will need experience in managing and co-ordinating medical staff and patient list’s along with extensive experience of working as a band 6 or 7 (Senior II or I) in an out-patient department. We are looking for someone who understands the flexibility required to work in a unique football environment and you will have a proactive and adaptable attitude, along with the ability to work under pressure.
Please note, due to the nature of this role you must be willing to work evenings and weekends.
