Job Purpose
To work as part of a multi-disciplinary team within Scottish Rugby’s High Performance department to create a world-class performance training and development environment; specifically, within the Glasgow & the West region. The successful candidate will work as an integral part of the women and girls’ performance development pathway. They will drive the delivery of strength and conditioning within the Women and Girls Pathway; specifically taking charge of the training groups in Glasgow & the West region while also supporting the wider National needs, as directed.
Key Accountabilities
- To support the planning, execution, and alignment of the performance development programme to identified National and regional players in the SW Future’s program.
- To lead and drive the delivery of physical development within the Glasgow & West region. Including, but not limited to, S&C programming, technical coaching, player & coach education.
- To lead and drive the delivery of the player monitoring with specific focus on alignment to National physical measures. Including, but not limited to; training volume, movement competency, physical profiling (G&M, speed, strength, power)
- In conjunction with the SW staff and Athletic Performance department, maintain a database of players’ progress and monitoring results to provide regular data/reports as required.
- To educate players on techniques, habits and lifestyles required to be an elite rugby player; providing guidance on strategies and education to players, parents and other stakeholders.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Attainments:
Essential
- Current UKSCA accreditation or equivalent physical development qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Strength and Conditioning (or comparable level)
Desirable
- Post Graduate Degree in Strength & Conditioning (or comparable subject)
- UKCC Coaching qualification
- A recognised qualification in Sports Nutrition or related discipline
- ISAK level 1 accreditation
- UKAD educator
- First aid
Knowledge and Experience:
Essential
- At least 2 years’ experience of S&C coaching in a Pathway environment, or comparable performance development program.
- Extensive knowledge of Physical development principles, including experience of physical testing and reporting.
- Ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of long-term athletic development principles.
- Strong interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to work within an interdisciplinary team.
- Strong Coaching & Teaching Skills.
Desirable
- Experience of working with, and developing female athletes
- Knowledge of current research within female rugby union – specific interest on injury prevention and performance.
- Knowledge of rugby union environments and player development pathways
- Personal experience of competing at National or professional level as an athlete.
- Competent with IT, particularly Microsoft Office
- Experience using physical profiling equipment; particular around CMJ, IMTP assessments
