Job Purpose

  • To develop and lead the implementation of a range of investments and programmes identified in the Scottish Rugby Women and Girls Strategy and the Rugby Development Future-proofing the Community Game Strategy to support our rugby communities to deliver a thriving and vibrant game.
  • Ensure the women’s and girls’ pathway is strengthened throughout the community game, providing alignment, increased visibility, and prioritisation to create a positive rugby experience for all including players, coaches, match officials, volunteers and club leaders.

Key Accountabilities

Develop and grow the game

  • Support Rugby Development department Senior Leadership Team and the Head of Women and Girls Strategy to implement and deliver key areas of priority, increasing whole club engagement and registered female membership
  • Work with Game Development colleagues to implement female player, coach and match official development growth plans
  • Work with Rugby Development department Senior Leadership Team, the Head of Women and Girls Strategy and the Head of Pathways and Elite Coach Development – to enhance alignment in the community game, ensuring the pathway and transition of players from the community game into the performance game is clear and effective.

Support the quality assurance of programmes

  • Work with Head of Regional Development and Regional Directors to build, deliver and positively promote the community game inclusive of high-quality competition, development series and player development hub programmes, strengthening local pathways into regional structures
  • Lead the monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness and impact of key Women and Girls development initiatives.
  • Work with regional teams to build, deliver and positively promote programmes that inspire and encourage the identification and development of strong and visible female leaders across the community game
  • Lead colleagues to ensure the impactful delivery of key initiatives including:
  • New network of Women and Girls Community Coaches
  • Review of club environments from the female perspective
  • Implementation of Female Game Leadership Academy and delivery framework
  • Targeted research in to enhance programmes supporting females
  • Delivery of additional pathway programmes and playing opportunities
  • Ongoing female player pathways development and enhancement.

Support the alignment and consistency of delivery

  • Work with key Rugby Development colleagues to develop and implement policies, procedures and effective data collection tools to ensure a live, clear and visible system exists to support and report against key outcomes and investment
  • Provide budget management and ensure effective and efficient use of budget and resource
  • Work with internal colleagues in Marketing and Communications to deliver a clear, visible and consistent message promoting and prioritising all aspects and impacts of female participation within the community game
  • To support colleagues to bring to life a range of player, coach and match official development programmes which directly contribute to our growth targets, and to influence the evolution of these programmes as the sector grows.

Connection and engagement

  • Lead and chair a departmental operations group to ensure alignment across regional teams and colleagues involved in the Women and Girls game
  • Ensure integration of development initiatives particularly in relation to strengthening club, school and society commitments to the female game.

Person Specification

  • Critical thinking: able to consider all the elements of a challenge and problem in order to find workable solutions and add value to increase efficiencies

  • Organisation skills: able to plan personal workload and organise multiple deadlines, time management is a must
  • Personal accountability: able to use your own initiative and use judgement in managing situations and making decisions
  • Effective communication: able to communicate confidently and effectively in a variety of mediums

Key experience and knowledge required:

  • A thorough knowledge, understanding and evidence of application of female sport development
  • An understanding of the management and committee structures in clubs
  • Knowledge of roles and responsibilities of a governing body
  • Knowledge, experience, and proven track record of setting and achieving strategic goals
  • Experience of working productively in partnership with various stakeholders including volunteers
  • IT proficiency including Microsoft Office
  • Excellent at presenting to all levels of audience
  • Budget management

Desirable experience would include:

  • Knowledge of Scottish Rugby’s strategic plans and the current Women and Girls programmes
  • Experience of working with volunteers and parents
  • Training or teaching experience
  • Resource development experience
  • Experience in developing programmes and courses

Key qualifications or attainments required:

  • Educated to degree level or relevant industry qualification/experience
  • Not essential, but a Coach/Referee Educator qualification would be desirable

Additional requirements:

  • Ability to work flexible hours, due to working in sport this will include some evening and weekend working and occasional overnight travel
  • Driving licence
