Premiership Rugby Limited (PRL) is a private company, owned by our 13 Member Clubs and CVC Capital Partners. Premiership Rugby is principally responsible for the management of the Gallagher Premiership Rugby competition and is a shareholder in European Professional Championship Rugby (EPCR) which manages the Heineken Champions Cup and the Challenge Cup, in which the Member Clubs participate. PRL also manages the Premiership Rugby Cup, Premiership Rugby Shield, and Under 18s competition.

The right candidate must be able to

  • think strategically and plan campaigns – on their initiative – to build on Premiership Rugby’s reputation as a world-class sports business
  • show excellent communications skills, whether working externally or internally within Premiership Rugby and our clubs
  • have the ability to work in a pressurised environment
  • have direct experience dealing with the media
  • create great partnerships with Premiership Rugby’s clubs and stakeholders
  • have particular focus on developing news stories and PR angles with our Rugby Department, particularly in the area of player welfare where we would expect a regular flow of news stories
  • work directly with Premiership Rugby’s Sports Science and Medicine Research Lead and Data Analyst to establish an impactful communications plan concerning player welfare, player development and performance research activity across the professional game. Communicate scientific concepts and player welfare initiatives clearly to a range of media outlets
  • co-ordinate a season-long strategy for communications from the Rugby Department with the Rugby Director, the Sports Science and Medicine Research Lead, Head of Science and Medical Operations and the department’s Data Analyst
  • have knowledge of rugby union across the world and be particularly knowledgeable on Premiership Rugby’s clubs and the history of the League
  • understand rugby’s complex working environment
  • manage Premiership Rugby’s accreditation system
  • have excellent writing and subbing skills as part of the role will be supplying content to several media platforms and editing several publications including the Premiership Rugby Media Guide, Salary Cap Report, and the programmes for the Gallagher Premiership Rugby Final
  • be able to prepare senior leaders for media opportunities
  • prepare briefing documents and Q&As for both senior leaders and our clubs
  • deputise for the Communications Director where relevant

Day-to-day duties will also include, dealing with general media inquiries, operating the Premiership Rugby Accreditation system, drafting press releases, filing, handling telephone calls, research and generating reports as required.

S/he will also support the Communications Director in producing the editorial content for both our website and app and in maintaining the Premiership Rugby press release system

S/he will show great attention to detail and be highly organised. Good IT skills and excellent written and spoken English are essential. Knowledge of Word, PowerPoint and Excel are vital.

The successful applicant will also be able to communicate confidently at all levels, handle confidential information with discretion and manage a busy workload calmly and efficiently.

This role will involve weekend work through the Gallagher Premiership Rugby season as wanting to attend matches will be a key part of the role.

Knowledge of the sport of rugby union is essential.

The right candidate will need to:

  • have at least two years experience working in a PR or Communications role
  • be knowledgeable on Premiership Rugby’s clubs and the history of the League. This should be demonstrated in your application
  • be able to understand rugby’s complex working environment;
  • have excellent communications skills, whether working externally or internally with Premiership Rugby and its clubs
  • have excellent writing and editing skills as part of the role will be supplying content to several media platforms and editing several publications including the Salary Cap Report, the programme for the Gallagher Premiership Rugby Final, and a series of data-led reports, generated by the Rugby Department.
  • be experienced within Social Media, as they will help develop our social media channels which include Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn

This role will require the successful candidate to be based predominantly at our head office in Victoria, 37.5 hours per week with at least 3 days per week to be office based.
