We are looking for an experienced and innovative Head of Sport Development, who will form a key part of the NTU Sport leadership team. The role will lead the department’s work in the areas of sports participation, diversity and inclusion, sports volunteering, and engaging with hard to reach segments of the NTU community.
You will take a leading role in pushing forward the department’s ambition to create a culture where regular participation in physical activity is the norm, thereby making a significant contribution to the wellbeing and academic achievement of students at NTU. We aim to have at least 70% of our students involved in regular activity by 2025.
NTU Sport also takes competitive sport seriously; the University is ranked in the top 10 of over 150 Universities in the British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) league table and aspires to continue in its strong upward trajectory.
About You
A proven leader and sports development professional, you will have experience of working in a higher education environment, ideally within a sports role. You will have strong interpersonal and influencing skills; you will also have the ability to create and build effective relationships with internal and external partners. Your written and verbal communication skills will be excellent and you will have experience of managing budgets.

Job purpose:
As a member of the NTU Sport leadership team, to be the strategic lead for participation in sport and physical activity;
this involves being responsible for the planning and delivery of sector-leading sport engagement and volunteering
programmes designed to enhance the student experience for all members of the Nottingham Trent University (NTU)
community - and hence improve the likelihood of successful retention and academic progression.
Principal duties and responsibilities:
The role will encompass all of the following, but the balance of duties and responsibilities will be determined in discussion with the post holder’s line manager:
1) In consultation with other members of the leadership team, set the strategic direction and provide effective
leadership for the Sports Development Team (SDT):
2) Create partnerships with key bodies outside of the University, as well as developing close working arrangements
with internal partners, to devise innovative and imaginative methodologies to broaden participation and increase
overall engagement in sport, ensuring that the University’s sporting activities are inclusive and welcoming to all.
