The New England Free Jacks are greater Boston’s explosive and excitable professional rugby team competing in Major League Rugby (MLR), the premier North American professional competition, representing all the greatness of the six New England states on and off the field. As we gear up for the start of our 2023 season, we're searching for a motivated, responsible, punctual, and growth-minded individual to join as a sport management and administration intern for the 2023 Major League Rugby season. The successful candidate will get an expansive and fully immersive learning experience at the coal face from assisting with on-field sessions, to financial planning. In doing so, the applicant will gain a clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the General Manager and Team Manager within a professional rugby organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Financial planning, budgeting, and management
  • Data storage, archiving and filing
  • Training set-up, and breakdown
  • Intra-session roles (filming, equipment, GPS, on field assistance)
  • Facility and equipment maintenance and inventory (gym, field, office)
  • Office administration and daily tasks that support the day-to-day team function
  • Development of important partnerships with sponsors and stakeholders (local hotels, vendors etc.)
  • Player nutrition and supplementation management
  • Team travel logistics
  • Creation of various presentations and manuals to improve organization function
  • Away team hospitality
  • Game day roles across various facets (ticketing, merchandise, set-up, break-down, analysis, performance, hospitality, game day operations)
  • Academy and grassroots facilitation

You will report directly to the General Manager and be heavily involved in all aspects of the rugby operations. We want someone who loves sports, has a can-do attitude, and, above all, a relentless work ethic.

Requirements:

  • Pursuing a degree in Sport Management/Administration or a similar field
  • Ability to work most, if not all, Free Jacks home matches on weekends
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and oral communication skills
  • Strong initiative, resourcefulness, and ability to collaborate with fellow team members
  • Ability to lift ~35 lbs. on occasion and be on your feet for extended periods
  • Must be willing to work in a fast-paced environment
